Is Mats Rots good enough for PSV?: “At PSV, other things matter.”
1 min readMats Rots had a strong season at FC Twente. The left-back for the Tukkers is therefore frequently mentioned as a potential reinforcement for PSV since it is still unclear whether Anass Salah-Eddine will stay.
Rots, with his team, finished fourth in the Eredivisie, meaning FC Twente will play in the qualifying round of the Europa League next season. According to ESPN analyst Kenneth Perez, Rots could be a good addition for PSV.
This is what the Danish analyst says in the program Voetbalpraat on ESPN. ''Not as a result of boos, but he can still take part. That depends on many factors. He really is a good player, really. But at PSV, other things matter'', Perez believes.
According to Arno Vermeulen, former commentator for NOS, Rots has the advantage that as a left-back he is primarily attacking. ''He is a very attacking left wing-back defender. That is of great value in today's top-level football,'' Vermeulen said

''He provides assists, makes goals and is only twenty years old. He has an enormous audacity on the field'', Vermeulen concludes. The expectation is, however, that PSV will have to put a lot of money on the table if it wants to lure the left back away from Enschede.

Very interested to see how they handle rotations. If the same midfield duo starts every match, teams will figure out the press triggers. Give me fresh legs for the 60th minute and keep the tempo high.
Goal!!👏 If the midfield keeps winning the second balls like that, Gakpo vibes everywhere. Just dont disappear for 10 minutes, thats all i ask.
Wie kijkt mee? Idk why we keep forcing it through the middle when the wings were working. Either change the pass selection or accept we will struggle to create clear chances. 👀
"don't overcommit" is spot on. Too many times we jump forward, and then Gakpo is left chasing shadows. Keep the shape, let the fullbacks attack in waves, and we get goals without the stress.
The quote about taking the game to the opponent is bold... but im not convinced our defensive cover is matching it. Fix that and we are scary, no cap.
Tbh i love the intensity, but if we keep giving those easy transitions away, itll bite us vs the big teams. Need a more solid balance in possession.
Wingers on cutback duties, that is where the danger is. Come on PSV, go for the second ball too, not just the first cross! 🔥⚽
Wie kijkt mee? 👀🔥
Loving how Pepi/Johan? is pressing in those moments, makes it way harder to play out. Still think we need more control when the ball goes wide, right now it feels a bit chaotic lol 😂
If PSV insist on playing that high line, the midfield has to be perfect with the cover. Otherwise every turn turns into a free counter, and thats when teams punish you.
Ngl i think the article overhypes the tactical tweak. It is nice on paper, but defensively we still get dragged out of shape when the opponent shifts play quick. That could cost points vs stronger teams.
Goalkeeper distribution was the key for me. When the keeper hits it first time, PSV look 2 steps faster, especially to the wings. If that breaks down, the whole attack feels clunky.
"Inside PSV" is always spicy but todays point about the buildup was spot on. If we dont get the quick second ball, we end up recycling and losing rhythm. 💀
🔥 "Inside" should mean more tactical detail, and ngl this match showed exactly where we leak. When the winger cuts inside, the whole shape has to be ready.
"PSV Inside" is right, Pepi as the more advanced option can be scary if he gets those half-space touches early. But if the buildup is too slow, he will be isolated by the first press. We need quicker switches.
kokke is looking more confident lately, but we still need better end product in the final third. Too many "almosts" for my taste.
If PSV are serious about pressing high, they cant be so open between fullback and DM. The article's point about the buildup risk is spot on.
I agree with the part about the fullbacks being too high sometimes. When they leave that space, teams just attack the half-spaces and it turns into chaos. Couldve been handled better tbh.
Lets be real, if PSV want control, we need better pressing triggers in midfield. The article saying X player lacks intensity felt accurate, because once they step out, the counter threat is immediate. 🔥
If PSV go with that same inverted setup again, i hope the fullbacks actually commit to the overlap. Otherwise it just turns into sideways passing and no end product. Still, the midfield spacing looked promising.
