More support for Veerman: “He was indeed treated too harshly.”

Last week, Johan Derksen was fairly critical during an appearance on Vandaag Inside in a discussion with sports marketer Chris Woerts about the words Joey Veerman spoke about national team coach Ronald Koeman after the PSV - FC Twente match. Veerman told ESPN on camera that the national team coach doesn't have to call him when it became known that the midfielder was not on the list of 40 players from which Koeman must choose his squad of 26 players for the World Cup.

''He never performs in important matches. It’s always against pathetic opponents with little passes or a long-range shot: you can’t win a war with that!'', Derksen said among other things in VI, and Woerts didn’t agree. ''That doesn’t matter, because you can still have respect for the player and say: 'Hey, you’re not coming along.' Perfect'', said the sports marketer in response.

Tablemate René van der Gijp is, in a sense, in agreement with Woerts and lends his support to Veerman. ''He has indeed been dealt with too harshly, huh, Wilfred? Come on, be reasonable, man. You may certainly tackle someone hard, but just let him have his due. That kid can simply play football well. And then it wouldn't be a boy who would be in the starting lineup at Real Madrid. Well, and then? That can happen, or not?'', says Van der Gijp to presenter Wilfred Genee in the segment De Krantjes of Vandaag Inside from Curaçao.

This is what Van der Gijp says after Genee remarked that Veerman would not be included in the squad, and that this was also discussed in the podcast KieftJansenEgmondGijp. ''Joey Veerman isn’t in it. You found him a bit too nonchalant, I understood,'', asked the presenter.

Thereon, the former PSV player replied: ''No, the others (in the podcast KieftJansenEgmondGijp, ed.). I think that nonchalance was staged. That's not a problem. He also doesn't want to show that he's completely devastated by it. He also thinks: that party, I just won't give it to him, you know'', as Gijp said.
