1 min readPSV lost 1-3 at home on Saturday evening in a friendly against Villarreal. In particular, Matej Kovár, who made the error on the third Spanish goal, can expect criticism. The goalkeeper isn’t exactly well received by the supporters and that is, to put it mildly, putting it mildly.
What is it then with Kovar and his powers of concentration? Is it a lack of concentration or is it a lack of quality? The hunt for more goals on the PSV side was quickly undone again by Kovar's blunder against Villarreal.
On social media, Kovář gets a lot of flak after his two mistakes, and rightly so, because what the goalkeeper showed for the equalizer is simply nothing that makes sense. Of course, the shaky defense is also to blame for the goals conceded by the Spanish opponent. 23 attempts on goal by Villarreal is therefore really too much of a good thing, and a warning sign that the necessary things must be changed.
“The Czech goalkeeper of PSV is messing around again for the second time like a pupil,” Rik Elfrink wrote after the third Spanish goal. “Perhaps Nick Olij therefore still smells opportunities again, because what he showed today seemed like it was nowhere.” A little later, the club watcher nuances this somewhat by indicating that Kovář also made a few good saves. “But he went wrong twice horribly, and that’s what you’re judged on as a goalkeeper,” sounds rightly critical.

"Maar hij ging twee keer gruwelijk in de fout en daar word je als keeper op beoordeeld" ja exact. Conclusie: of de kwaliteit is nog niet genoeg, of de focus zit niet goed. Ik zou iig meer rust achterin willen zien bij elke voorzet.
Na twee fouten gaat het voor een keep bijna altijd direct mis in je hoofd. Dat gezegd hebbende: als Villarreal 23 schoten krijgt, dan is het ook een defensieprobleem. Ik hoop dat Olij dit soort momenten gebruikt om te prikken, want dit is een zwakke plek nu.
23 doelpogingen tegen Villarreal is gewoon te veel, maar ja, als Kovár er bij de derde goal zo bijstaat dan wordt dat meteen een discussie over kwaliteit en concentratie. Hoop dat Olij in de training scherp blijft en dat de verdediging ook gewoon ingrijpt.
"De Tsjechische doelman van PSV loopt voor de tweede keer te prutsen als een pupil" is wel hard, maar helaas klopt het verhaal. Als je dan ook nog 1-3 verliest van Villarreal, dan is dit geen losse flater.
Kovar en concentratie is echt een terugkerend thema, tbh. Bij die derde goal zag je het al aankomen, verdediging of niet... een keeper moet dat gewoon dichtgooien. Wel goede stops ertussen, maar fouten wegen zwaarder.
23 doelpogingen tegen krijgen in een oefenpot is echt niet normaal. En dan ook nog twee keer zo staan klooien, dat is gewoon te slordig. Ik snap de kritiek op Kovar volledig.
