Former PSV players crack the KNVB: "We also shouldn't overestimate it all"
1 min readIt is three weeks since Ronald Koeman stepped down, and it is still unclear who the new national team manager of the Netherlands will be. Arne Slot seems like the dream candidate, but there would be a stumbling block between Slot and the KNVB.
That was reported by Valentijn Driessen on behalf of De Telegraaf earlier this week. Where Slot would want two years, the KNVB wants four years.
According to former PSV players René van der Gijp and Wim Kieft, the KNVB must agree to Slot’s terms and appoint him as national team coach. Both analysts say this in the podcast KieftJansenEgmondGijp.
''What I heard is that the problem is that Slot only wants to sign for two years. And they want someone for four years. I don't see much of a problem with that. Just do two years. That's totally fine'', so says Van der Gijp.
Kieft also believes that the KNVB shouldn’t make things too difficult. ''We shouldn’t overestimate it all either. You want to put a big name on it, I understand that as well for the image. But, well...'', Kieft said.

"We moeten het ook allemaal niet overschatten" klinkt grappig, maar tbh het gaat wel om een job that decides the next 2 tournaments. Als Slot gewoon wil bouwen, geef hem dan ruimte.
René van der Gijp zegt dat er geen probleem is met twee jaar, en ik snap dat wel. Maar als de KNVB nu al moeilijk doet, voelt dat toch als bang zijn om te investeren.
Two years vs four years is echt the whole drama here, lol. If Slot delivers, nobody cares about the contract length.
