An AD columnist makes a prediction and points to PSV: “But it’s very close to each other.”

PSV will claim its fourth consecutive national title in the 2026/2027 season. Last season, PSV became the earliest-ever league champion in the Eredivisie and, in the end, Peter Bosz’s team finished with no fewer than nineteen points more than number 2 Feyenoord.

Maurice Steijn, former head coach of Sparta Rotterdam, and AD columnist Hugo Borst expect a more exciting title race next season compared to last season. Both men say so in the program De Oranjezomer on SBS6.

At Feyenoord, Sem Steijn plays, the son of Maurice. ''I hope he can carry forward the line he started last year. He came in at a very nice moment, as top scorer and player of the year. And he made it to the Netherlands national team. Then only things went downhill, also due to an injury. He has been operated on, has trained through the summer, and wants to blaze this year'', Maurice says about his son.

Afterwards, Hugo Borst takes over. ''As far as Sem is concerned, I still believe in him very strongly, because he can finish so easily. He’s such a smart player. He didn’t get that from his father. And yes... I understand that Ajax have to become champions, PSV wants to extend him, so I’m very curious about what statement Giovanni van Bronckhorst will make'', the journalist and Sparta supporter says.

Then the gentlemen discuss their expectations for the coming season. ''It’s going to be a really fun competition. I also think it’s going to be much closer among the teams,'' says Steijn, after which Borst responds: ''PSV is less good, because Saibari is gone.''

The former Spartacus coach responds: ''Ajax with a few good signings, Feyenoord stable, and right behind them also FC Twente, AZ and FC Utrecht... I really have a lot of enthusiasm for the Eredivisie.''

Yet Borst still thinks PSV is the main title contender after all. ''We always have to enter him for VI, as analysts. Only you don’t yet know who has moved to which club. At the moment, I would say that PSV wins it one more time, but it is very close'', concludes the AD columnist.
