Clear message from Peter Bosz for Matej Kovar, but worrying....?
1 min readThe situation under the crossbar at PSV has for years in a row been something of a cause for concern. By now, Drommel’s status at PSV has become clear, but the goalkeeper from Bussum does nothing less than Walter Benítez and Matej Kovar. In short, it’s simply miserable under the crossbar at PSV if you look at Kovar’s mistakes.
The position of first-choice goalkeeper is, by the way, by no means something to worry about for Peter Bosz, but whether the coach really means it is another matter. Every now and then, however, it is certainly worrying what Kovar shows. Drommel was passed over for consecutive blunders as PSV’s first goalkeeper for less, but according to Bosz, Kovar is beyond dispute.
Peter Bosz has, as it should be, recorded his press conference after PSV - Villarreal for Matej Kovár. The goalkeeper received heavy criticism after two major mistakes in the friendly match, but he also made a great many good saves. Bosz does think that Kovár needs to make fewer mistakes, but otherwise Bosz does not seem to be too concerned about Kovar’s goalkeeping.
Against the Spanish, Kovář kept his team on its feet for a long time, but the two big mistakes stuck. Once, such a mistake led to a goal. At the press conference afterwards, Bosz gets asked what he thought of the performance of the Czech. Bosz couldn't ignore it and pointed to the blunders.

“I find it so regrettable that he is doing himself a disservice with those two actions where he looked bad,” the coach begins. “I’m not exaggerating when I think he certainly made ten saves. Then it’s a shame that those two actions keep sticking in people’s minds again now as well.” Incidentally, Bosz does have understanding that the mistakes stick, because it also led to a goal.
Kovár is now on the eve of his second season under the bar at PSV, so Bosz demands improvement from his first-choice goalkeeper. “He is now used to Eindhoven, he is used to the way we play and what we expect from him. Ultimately I will expect fewer of those little mistakes, which we saw two of tonight as well", said Peter Bosz, who himself will also surely realize that Kovar will continue to blunder over the coming weeks and months.
