Critical evaluation desired? | “Get Luuk de Jong or Hendrie Kruzen out of it”
1 min readHe got one more great twist to his ears last week. Ibrahim Afellay will certainly not be missed on television, Johan Derksen wanted to make clear from Curaçao. Derksen has little use for Afellay, as became clear once again.
Studio Voetbal means in any case that and so Ibrahim Afellay, who was stopped at PSV, will not be returning to the screen either. Afellay had a fine role at NOS through tactically strong analyses, but Derksen thinks otherwise. Be that as it may. Afellay's departure from PSV, however, did stir up some commotion. 'PSV is after the sudden departure of assistant Afellay for critical evaluation', the Eindhovens Dagblad wrote about the departed PSV player.
'PSV management is awaiting a critical assessment following the departure of Ibrahim Afellay', began the Eindhoven Daily. Also on social media, numerous reactions and opinions came after the departure of the original PSV player.
In a statement, Afellay said he had hoped for more input. "After a number of good talks with the board of directors and Peter Bosz, I took on this challenge at the start of this year with a lot of energy and enthusiasm, but it turned out in practice to be different from what I had imagined. For example, I would have liked to lead parts of training sessions more often and leave more of my mark. We talked about that. We disagree on it, and that’s perfectly fine", Afellay made clear.

The departure of Afellay could best lead to a thorough assessment, the Eindhoven newspaper says. 'His departure proves that not everything at the club turns to gold at the moment, although that sometimes seems to be the case,' writes Eindhovens Dagblad. 'Apparently, Afellay developed the idea that he could and should have done more for PSV. The question is whether that was clear on the front end (that is, prior to his appointment), something that the leadership of PSV must evaluate starting Monday and, if the answer is yes, take responsibility for as well.'
Afellay is, after his predecessor André Ooijer, the second assistant coach who leaves the Bosz staff fairly quickly. 'It doesn't reflect well on the club that, after André Ooijer, Afellay also departs within a short period of time,' analyzes the Eindhovens Dagblad. For a PSV fan on X, it's time to appoint Luuk de Jong as assistant, but the name Hendrie Kruzen also comes up frequently. Kruzen has effectively already for years been Peter Bosz's right-hand man, aside from the fact that the two are also close friends. 'Get Luuk de Jong or Hendrie Kruzen,' urges a PSV fan on X the PSV board.

🔥🔥🔥 that moment when the ball was switched fast was pure PSV. If we do that more often, opponents dont have time to set their shape.
Tbh im not convinced by the midfield shape, it looks narrow when they build up and then suddenly too stretched on transitions. If they want Sangare to be the shield, the wingers have to track back, otherwise its chaos. Also, subbing decisions better be earlier next match.
"We need more intensity" is facts. If Xavi Simons starts drifting too central, we should feed the wing runs more, otherwise it turns into sideway passes. 🤡
tbh the quote about "staying brave in transitions" sounds nice, but PSV have to be ruthless. When we win it, take the shot or slip it first time. Too many slow dribbles kills the momentum.
Eens. If Gakpo is on the half-turn early, we are cooking 🔥. Just need the wingers to show for the second ball more often.
Tbh im glad the article focused on the buildup instead of just goals, because that midfield control is what wins games. But if we are pressing that much, i want the fullbacks to hold shape, not bomb forward every time. 🔥
Bro, why do we keep playing that risky build-up when the press is clearly coming? Teze looked solid today but the midfield still gets bypassed too easily. We should be more direct when it gets crowded.
If PSV are serious about pressing, they need more intensity from the front. Right now it feels like the first touch kills the momentum, and then we are chasing shadows. Still, the potential is there, especially when the fullbacks go early.
De quote about
If PSV actually goes with that high line again, i just know the transitions will get exploited... Dumfries needs to be sharp defensively or we will get cooked. 👀⚽
Wie kijkt mee? 👀⚽ Zie ik daar dezelfde routine weer als tegen de zwakkere tegenstanders. Met Zahavi in dat pocket-rolletje gaat het sneller, maar zonder echte press kan het omslaan.
I like what they said about the left-back overlap, but does anyone else worry about the cover space behind him? ⚽ If Til keeps drifting inside too much, we might get punished on the counter.
So we are really trusting that midfield to control the tempo? 👀 Last week it looked shaky until the press kicked in. If we sit too deep again, opponents will just turn us around.
If PSV want to control games, they need Luuk de Jong to come deeper instead of holding that high line on his own. I get the link-up, but it leaves space behind when the fullbacks dont push at the right time. Right now it feels half-setup, half-chance.
