The bishop no longer talks about the matter: “It happened the way it happened.”
1 min readPSV defender Armando Obispo is gearing up with Curaçao for the first-ever appearance at the FIFA World Cup. In recent weeks, there has been a lot of commotion over the island's national team coach position.
Three months ago, Dick Advocaat decided to step down from his duties as national team coach due to family circumstances. Advocaat, who made history last November by qualifying with the island for the World Cup, was replaced by Fred Rutten.
Under Rutten, however, Curacao’s start was dramatic, with hopeless warm-up losses against China (2-0) and Australia (5-1). As a result, the pressure on Rutten increased, also from sponsors and the media.
Ultimately Dick Advocaat decided to return, and this led in many a talk show to heavy criticism of the born Hageneer, including from Johan Derksen. Also Armando Obispo was part of the whole soap opera, but decided not to form an opinion about it.

This tells the defender in conversation with NOS. ''I kept it at bay. It turned out the way it did. The most important thing is that we leave it behind and that we focus fully on the World Cup and perform as well as possible'', according to Obispo.
Curacao plays during the World Cup in Group E against Germany, Ivory Coast and Ecuador, and even the PSV player knows that the island is a heavy underdog. Despite that, Obispo believes his team is not without a chance. ''The ball is round. Everything is possible. Yes, of course. We know that we are up against a very difficult challenge. But I certainly think it is possible to pull off an upset. I think everyone has to believe in it. There’s no point in going to the World Cup without belief. I’m convinced we can put on something beautiful,'' concludes the defender.

No opinion about the Advocaat-Rutten drama is actually smart. If he tries to talk too much, it turns into noise, and now they need focus... good from Obispo 🔥
Lets go stunts, ngl 😍⚽
Curacao already started with those rough friendlies, China 2-0 and Australia 5-1... still, i like the mindset from Obispo. "De bal is rond" is basic but tbh you need that belief vs Germany and Ivoorkust.
Obispo saying "Het is gelopen zoals het is gelopen" is such a captain vibe. Frustrating soap, but at least he is shutting it down and focusing on the group.
