Former PSV target takes aim at Feyenoord: ‘I never felt at home there’

1 min read

He came into consideration at PSV as a potential replacement for Ibrahim Sangaré, who left for Nottingham Forest in the last days of the transfer window in the summer of 2023 for millions of euros.

PSV and Feyenoord tried to get FC Twente to move Ramiz Zerrouki by selling him. PSV also showed up in Enschede, but Feyenoord had a slight edge because the Rotterdam club had already contacted the player and his agent earlier. PSV contacted FC Twente at the time.

In the meantime, the panels have been turned because Zerrouki doesn't want to think about having to reappear in Rotterdam after the summer break. The midfielder of FC Twente recently said that he had "never really felt at home" at Feyenoord and that he doesn't want to return to Feyenoord.

The 27-year-old Algerian was loaned out last season to FC Twente, where he rediscovered his football enjoyment. The midfielder is normally expected to fetch not a lot of money this summer from Feyenoord, but PSV will most likely no longer be in the running as a potential next step.

"PSV Inside" talks about the build-up and i feel like we keep seeing the same issue: midfield gets brave but the final ball is still late. Need more tempo from the half-space, otherwise teams just step out and block the channel 🔥

Tbh i dont think it is a personnel issue as much as structure. If the 6 stays too deep, the 8 has no passing lane and Sangare-like roles get wasted. Lets see more movement between the lines. 😅

Burning question for me: who is actually taking responsibility in the half-space when the striker drags the CB away? The article mentions rotations, but on matchday it must be clear and coordinated. Otherwise its chaos and we lose the second ball.

"PSV Inside" actually nails it: we need the fullbacks to overlap, not just underlap. When they hold too long, the winger has no outlet and the ball just gets recycled. 100% go for the extra man. ⚽

The defensive line timing worries me. One wrong step and suddenly the counter-attack is straight at Tillman or whoever is sitting high. We cant be that casual in transitions. 💀

Lol if you think this style is gonna make us look shook, keep dreaming. Your press is loud, but when it fails it leaves huge lanes. Cant wait for the counter-attacks though 😂💀

"PSV Inside" feels very confident about the midfield balance, but tbh i still worry about the defensive cover when the fullback goes. One bad touch and the winger is through, i would rather see more discipline in the 6.

I like that we are more direct up top, but if Xavi Simons drifts too much, the half-space gets empty. Then our wide players end up chasing shadows. 👀

Tbh if that inside-the-box rotation is what they want, i just hope it comes with end product. Til we see consistent final passes, its a lot of running for not much payoff 😅

I thought the article nailed how much our build-up depends on the half-space runs. If the 8 drops too deep, its basically a slow pass-and-reset and opponents just set their block. Need more tempo and vertical balls, not just keeping possession 💯

If PSV really goes with that high press, i wanna see it start from the front. Tilting the first ball through the middle could break teams fast, but if we get bypassed once, it turns into panic in transition 😅⚽

No offense but PSV always looks a bit slow in buildup. If the article is hinting at pressing from midfield, that needs intensity from day one, otherwise we just get pinned in our half. 🔥
