Teammate Madueke candidly speaks about harsh words: 'Everyone has worked incredibly hard'
1 min readFormer PSV player Noni Madueke is getting England ready for the semi-final of the 2026 World Cup in which The Three Lions will take on reigning world champions Argentina. In the quarterfinal, the English won after extra time 1-2 against the in-form Norway.
The big man on the English side this time was midfield anchor Jude Bellingham. Bellingham was very important with two goals for the setup of national team coach Thomas Tuchel, who after the match was critical of his team’s style of play.
''I am not satisfied with our performance. With what exactly? With no aspect'', said Tuchel after the match in front of the camera of TV broadcaster ITV.
Bellingham, however, does not agree with the words of the German coach. ''Oh well, what does it matter. It was just very tough today. Everyone worked extremely hard. My appreciation goes out to all the players, who again gave everything'', said the midfielder.
Bellingham was on edge ahead of the match with the Norwegians and, with a yellow card, would have had to let the semi-final pass him by. ''My mother has warned me all week to watch my language, my tackles, my emotions. The referee (Clément Turpin, red.) officiated well and was open to communicating in a respectful way. Enough referees don’t do that, which made it a lot easier'' the Real Madrid player said, laughing.

"Iedereen heeft keihard gewerkt" klinkt als het soort PSV DNA waar je op leeft. 👏 Ben benieuwd of Madueke daar ook echt iets over zegt in de opbouw naar de halve finale. Met Real Madrid-middenvelders en Bellingham erbij gaat het straks om details, niet om woorden. 🔥
De opmerking van Bellingham over zijn moeder die waarschuwde is echt herkenbaar, laat maar zien dat hij discipline heeft. Maar hij moet dit niveau dan ook meenemen, zeker als het een halve finale is tegen de wereldkampioen, anders wordt het een lastig avondje.
Iets te makkelijk om "ach ja wat maakt het uit" te roepen imo. Argentinië gaat je niet vergeven als je geen antwoord hebt op hun druk, Tuchel zat er niet voor niets doorheen 🤡.
Noni Madueke in Engeland en dan Bellingham over communicatie met de scheids, dat is wel zo'n detailniveau waar je kampioen van wordt. Alleen, als Tuchel zo kritisch is, dan klopt er toch iets niet in de opbouw 👀.
Jude met die glimlach over Turpin, echt typische grote-momenten instelling. "Het was gewoon heel zwaar vandaag" is ook gewoon waar, kwartfinales zijn altijd messy. Als ze zo kunnen winnen tegen Argentinië dan is het een statement, maar Tuchel heeft ook wel een punt als je structureel niet dominanter wordt.
Ngl, Tuchel die het veldspel afkraakt na een 1-2 in verlenging... bruh, dat is meestal juist een avond waar je blij moet zijn. Noorwegen zat er goed in, dus "Iedereen heeft keihard gewerkt" voelt gewoon eerlijker. Maar ja, Argentinië wordt natuurlijk een compleet ander level.
Die gele-kaarssituatie klinkt gevaarlijk, gelukkig bleef Bellingham kalm. Als Turpin inderdaad goed floot, dan kun je wilder gedrag minder excuseren. Hopelijk is dat tegen Argentinië ook zo.

Wat ik wel grappig vind is dat Bellingham echt over zijn "taalgebruik, tackles en emoties" praat 😅. Als je op scherp staat en toch scoort, dan is dat volwassen wedstrijdmentaliteit. Respect.
