Van der Vaart strikes back after an “attack”
1 min readThe World Championship in the United States, Mexico and Canada has been over for the Netherlands national team for almost two weeks now, but the criticism is still far from dying down.
In the meantime, Ronald Koeman's son has also become a topic of conversation because he has spoken out—indeed, at times quite harshly—about criticisms of his father Ronald Koeman. In turn, Rafael van der Vaart has responded to the critical remarks that Ronald Koeman junior recently made about him. The goalkeeper of Telstar is bothered by the way pundits talk about his father on television. In particular, Van der Vaart and Van Hooijdonk will have to answer to Koeman Junior.
Koeman junior lashed out firmly on SBS6’s Het Oranje Café at the critics of the former national team coach. Thus, Telstar’s goalkeeper had criticism of the way Valentijn Driessen interviewed his father. The analysts also had to take it. "I don’t know if I should say this, but all those analysts used to have a real dislike for people complaining about them. And now they’re doing exactly the same thing. I find that annoying."
Presenter Sam van Rooyen then mentioned the names of NOS analysts Rafael van der Vaart and Pierre van Hooijdonk, where Koeman junior replied: "Yes. They all experienced it earlier, how annoying it is. Also for the family. But of course they also have to earn a living."

Van der Vaart was confronted by Sportnieuws with the criticism from Koeman junior. However, the former international sticks to his earlier analyses. "We only said that he coached in the wrong system. I believe that was also the case. If you are a national team coach, you know: this is part of it. Koeman is a fantastic guy, a fantastic coach. It’s just that this tournament didn’t suit him", Van der Vaart lashes out at Koeman and Koeman Junior.
Does Van der Vaart understand that Koeman junior is defending his father. "If they were to say something about my father, I would also give them a piece of my mind. That’s how the world works. Isn’t it only logical that you protect your father?" said Van der Vaart.

Ngl im worried about the defensive transitions. One loose moment and suddenly it feels like every shot is from a dangerous angle. We need the back line to step as a unit, otherwise this tactic will get exposed again 🤡
Tbh the biggest test is how we handle transitions after we win the ball. If the team drops too deep, the full-backs get exposed and suddenly the game flips. Need more discipline off the ball, asap. 🙄
That quote about "control without slowing down" is the right idea. We just need better timing from the 8 and 10 so the press triggers at the right moment. If not, it turns into running for nothing. ⚽
Bruno, you can see the confidence, but he needs to be braver with the pass when the winger is marked tight. A quick 1-2 and suddenly we are in behind. 💯
Brilliant to see the wing play take on fullbacks, that was the difference today. But i fear we got caught when the ball got stuck and the counter came. Fix that timing and its peak football 🐐
"PSV have the tools to win duels" yeah ok, but winning duels only matters if we win the second ball too. Otherwise its just chaos in midfield, and then you get punished on the counter. 🔥
Idk about this midfield setup... it feels like we sacrifice ball progression to get intensity. If Xavi Simons drops too deep, we lose the vertical threat, and teams will just pin the full-backs. 🤡
If PSV really go with that high press, we will suffer the first 15 minutes when they play around it. But if the back line holds shape, Luuk and Pepi style runs will be a real problem for them. 👀
The best part for me was the decision-making in possession. PSV are at their strongest when they rotate quickly and punish the half-spaces, not when we slow down and recycle. If the next match looks like this again, we can win it
If PSV really went with that midfield shape, i get why it looked tidy, but we were too easy to play through at times. Sangare needs to be quicker scanning up, otherwise it turns into a chase. Still, the press intensity was there 🔥
