Wim Kieft no longer has confidence in PSV forward: “I was really convinced of that”

1 min read

Wim Kieft has known a number of successful years as a footballer at PSV, with the highlight being the treble in 1988. These days, Kieft is a pundit for, in particular, Ziggo Sport and during the World Cup the former striker is active on behalf of NOS as a pundit.

In addition, the native Amsterdammer had high expectations of PSV striker Ricardo Pepi. The former forward had predicted that Pepi would score many goals at PSV and that the American would also develop strongly.

However, in the area of Pepi's development, Kieft now believes that he was mistaken about the current striker of PSV who has been active in Eindhoven since the summer of 2023. The former striker lets it be known in the podcast KieftJansenEgmondGijp.

''Pepi isn’t really getting through all that, is he. I honestly thought he would score loads of goals. I was genuinely convinced of that. I thought I could see something in that. I’m not often wrong, but apparently I can be wrong too, of course'', Kieft said on the podcast.

Last March, the striker seemed close to a transfer to Fulham FC, but this transfer was called off at the very last moment, meaning the American is still in PSV’s employ. The expectation is that Pepi, who saw little playing time at the World Cup, will also be wearing the PSV kit as usual in the 2026/2027 season.
