Johan Derksen drags a former PSV player through the mud: “Nobody understands that”

1 min read

It has not escaped the gentlemen of the popular talk show Vandaag Inside that Morocco is in the quarterfinals of the World Cup of Football after they won 0-3 against Canada last Saturday. Afterwards, Moroccan fans decided to hit the streets to ''celebrate'' the victory against the Canadians.

At the men of VI, the images caused great astonishment. In particular, the riots could not be put in a good light.

So ex-PSV player René van der Gijp draws a comparison with the supporters of Cape Verde. ''I’m not necessarily going to watch Cape Verde, but the people there are proud. They were just cheering and bowing for their team'', so says Gijp.

Tablemate Johan Derksen is completely in agreement with Van der Gijp. ''Cape Verdeans who live here did not go out into the street to cause trouble. But the moment it comes to Moroccan youngsters, it suddenly becomes a social problem. With other countries you never hear that,'' Derksen responds.

De Snor is also critical of the police. ''I was completely fed up with footage of officers posing with flags in the picture, while in the meantime nothing is being intervened. The city is being torn down and they stand there laughing. Nobody understands that,'' fumes the former editor-in-chief of Voetbal International.

Afterwards, Valentijn Driessen joins the discussion, and Driessen is particularly displeased with the stance of prime minister Rob Jetten. ''After the Netherlands – Morocco it was still about bonding, but if afterwards cities are destroyed, you hear little'', says the journalist, full of bewilderment.

Next, the words of former PSV player Ibrahim Afellay come up. Afellay said after the match between Morocco and Canada that the riots are a societal problem rather than a Moroccan problem.

''Afellay is a first-class weakling, you know'', said Derksen.
