Mijnans goes deeper into his choice for PSV: “I knew exactly what I wanted.”
1 min readSince last Monday, Sven Mijnans may officially call himself a PSV player. Mijnans joins from AZ and PSV pays thirteen million euros for the midfielder who last season, on behalf of the Alkmaar side, stood out in the KNVB Cup final against NEC.
Last season, the newly minted PSV player seemed to be making the move to Eindhoven together with Ruben van Bommel. At the time, however, AZ’s management blocked the transfer of Mijnans, but now the move has nevertheless happened.
Last Monday, the first summer signing of the 2026/2027 season already spoke out to PSV’s club channels. ''This feels like a perfect next step in my career. PSV is a wonderful club with a clear vision, strong leadership, and top facilities,'' said Mijnans, among other things.
Now the midfielder gives more text and explanation about his transfer. ''Finally. It has gone incredibly fast,'' says the newly arrived PSV player to the club channel of PSV after the transfer gathered speed.
''When I won the cup with AZ after a successful season, both individually and as a team, I was looking for what was right for my development. I knew what I wanted: a step up. I’ve just had a baby; that one is only one year old. I just spoke to someone and they put it really nicely: PSV is a top club with calm. That fits very well with me'', continues Mijnans.
Moreover, the midfielder is hoping to play in Oranje via PSV for the 2028 European Championship. "There has been enough said about it over the past year, with the World Cup coming into view. Of course, that's something that's on my mind and something I would really like to happen toward the European Championship. If you perform well at your club, other things will follow naturally. That's what I have been thinking about, but it wasn't one of the main reasons," the newly signed PSV player said.

Ek 2028 dreams are cool, but midfield spots in Oranje are brutal. If he wants it, he needs consistent ball-winning and better distribution under pressure, not only "rust".
Ik vind het interessant dat Oranje en EK 2028 in z'n hoofd zit, maar ik koop vooral z'n verhaal over ontwikkeling. Als Van Bommel nog invloed had, dan is dit een transfer die eindelijk klopt met de planvorming. 🔥⚽

"Ik wist goed wat ik wilde: een stap hogerop." no cap, that's the right mindset. But 13m means we must see impact fast, not just promise.
The "Eindelijk. Het is supersnel gegaan" makes me wonder if AZ negotiations left any loose ends. Still, if PSV got exactly the profile Mijnans wanted, it should pay off.

"Een stap hogerop" en tegelijk heeft hij een kindje van 1 jaar, dat is ook gewoon timing. Ik ben vooral benieuwd hoe hij gaat draaien met de druk, want PSV is nooit mid.
13 miljoen voor een mid die bij AZ in die KNVB finale tegen NEC opviel... oké, dat klinkt als een echte versterking. Ben benieuwd hoe hij in onze opbouw past.
Eindelijk, supersnel gegaan zegt 'ie... tbh mooi dat het niet slechter werd door die AZ-blokkade. Nu hopen dat hij geen 'deurklink' wordt en echt durft te sturen.
"PSV is een topclub met rust" klinkt echt als waar we om vragen op het middenveld. Als Mijnans dat kan geven, dan gaan we niet alleen winnen maar ook beter blijven spelen.
Dertien miljoen voor een middenvelder is wel meteen een statement. Maar als hij na die KNVB-finale echt rust kan brengen, dan is dit wel logisch.
