De Telegraaf criticizes PSV for fumbling: “They didn’t come out”

1 min read

Anass Salah-Eddine will no longer wear PSV's red and white in the 2026/2027 season. Salah-Eddine was on loan from PSV last season and is returning to AS Roma to fight for his chance there.

Despite several offers to permanently take over the linkback from AS Roma, PSV therefore failed to get the defender to stay in Eindhoven. According to Mike Verweij, a journalist for De Telegraaf, this is a mistake by PSV.

This is what Verweij says in the podcast Kick-off of De Telegraaf when the transfer summer at PSV is discussed. ''There were fears of a complete exodus at PSV, but for the moment it is very calm. Actually, Saibari is the only one,'' says Valentijn Driessen.

After that, colleague Verweij talks about Salah-Eddine's departure. ''That was also pretty funny in the reporting. You read somewhere that PSV ultimately decided not to exercise that purchase option. That's true, but it's because Salah-Eddine didn't want to,'' the journalist says.

According to Verweij, PSV should have acted better when it came to including the purchase option in the contract. ''That really was a mistake by PSV. They wanted to exercise that purchase option, but they couldn't reach an agreement with Salah-Eddine. Then, of course, if you include such a purchase option, you need to have an underlying contract in place. So that when you exercise that purchase option, that contract is ready. Now, Salah-Eddine was in the driver-seat; he could decide that he would simply return to AS Roma,'' the reporter said.

I can't believe PSV didn't have the underlying contract ready. Saibari is indeed the only one mentioned, but you cant let a key linkback situation drag like this. 🤬
