A contract with De Graafschap
1 min readDe Graafschap takes over former PSV player Clint Leemans from NAC Breda. For a long time, Leemans seemed on track to extend his contract with the relegated team, but that was called off at the very last moment.
Now the midfielder, who was under contract with PSV from 2013 to 2016, therefore continues his career in Doetinchem. Leemans, however, did not play a minute for PSV's first team.
After three years at PSV, the former youth player eventually moved to VVV-Venlo, before in 2019 making his way to PEC Zwolle. Leemans was under contract there until 2021 and, during that time, he was loaned out to RKC Waalwijk and De Graafschap.
Via the Danish Viborg, the midfielder ended up at NAC Breda in 2023, and with the Bredans, Leemans managed to secure promotion in 2024. Last season, NAC was relegated again after two years to the Keuken Kampioen Divisie.
Eventually NAC decided not to extend the contract of the midfielder, and as a result De Superboeren benefit. Leemans has signed a contract through 2028.

Former footballer and current technical director of the Bluewitten from Doetinchem, Berry Powel, is looking forward to Leemans' arrival. ''We are absolutely delighted that Clint is returning to De Graafschap. He knows the club and brings with him an incredible amount of quality and experience. Clint is a player who can read matches and, with his kicking technique, is a weapon in set-piece situations. In addition, he is a true professional who will also be of great value within the players' group. We are convinced that he will make an important contribution to the development of our squad, both on and off the pitch,'' said Powel.

"Samen gaan we alles geven om onze doelen en ambities te realiseren" klinkt mooi, maar laat hem het eerst maar laten zien. Als Berry Powel zegt dat hij wedstrijden kan lezen dan wil ik dat ie direct de juiste keuzes maakt in de opbouw. Voor Doetinchem zou dit een serieuze upgrade kunnen zijn, vooral omdat hij standaards kan tackelen met zijn trap.
Berry Powel die meteen begint over traptechniek, dat is altijd gevaarlijk als het alleen in interviews goed klinkt 😂. Maar 1 ding klopt wel: met zo'n achtergrond kan Leemans echt waarde toevoegen, zeker bij standaard-situaties.

Lol, leuk dat hij terugkomt op De Vijverberg, maar ik blijf hangen in het feit dat hij bij PSV nooit voor de hoofdmacht minuten pakte. 2013-2016 onder contract en dan alsnog geen debut... toch wel jammer. Voor De Graafschap kan het wel een nuttige vakman zijn gezien zijn ervaring.
NAC degradeert, contract niet verlengen, en dan pakt De Graafschap hem tot 2028. Tbh dat is een slimme deal voor Doetinchem, maar wringt wel als je ziet hoe lang PSV hem al had lopen.
Clint Leemans weer op De Vijverberg, klinkt logisch maar toch jammer. 2013-2016 bij PSV en nooit een minuut voor het eerste, dan toch zo'n 'read the game' rol later. Hopelijk weet hij bij De Graafschap een basisplek af te dwingen, want die traptechniek klinkt wel raak.
Tbh ik snap de transfer van Clint Leemans niet echt, maar ja, De Graafschap wil natuurlijk controle in wedstrijden. Als je "traptechniek een wapen" leest dan verwacht ik vaste spelhervattingen en rendement op standaards. Hopelijk pakt hij dat snel op, want contract tot 2028 is wel lang.
