Will Ernest Faber return to PSV soon?: “He’s a PSV guy.”
1 min readFor Ernest Faber, the 2025/2026 season was one to quickly forget. The former PSV player is now the current technical director of relegation-threatened Heracles Almelo and, this season, he also briefly took charge of the club from Almelo.
Former coach and current analyst Gertjan Verbeek thinks that in the long run PSV will bring Faber back to Eindhoven. Verbeek lets it be known in the program De Oosttribune on RTV Oost.
''Faber talks about little figures, but this isn’t about little figures now. It’s about having a plan first and, from that plan, the right little figures should naturally rise to the surface. At least, that’s how it should be. But now I get the idea that they’re looking for little figures who have to write the plan to get Heracles back on track. That will never work,'' Verbeek says about the current situation at Heraclieden.
In addition, the former coach also points to Faber. ''That applies to Faber as well. However you turn it or twist it: maybe he’s still there this year, maybe next year, and maybe he’s even there for three years, but after that he would like to return to PSV again. He has indicated that as well. He’s a PSV man. So he’s there only temporarily. A head coach as well,'' the analyst thinks.

After that, there is also a deeper look at the current situation within the club from Almelo. ''But you have to have a plan for the future, with where Heracles will be in 2030 and in 2035. 'How are we going to set that up and with whom are we going to do it, and how are we going to do it?' Then you have to look at the club's structure and identity and that has to be there. And it shouldn't depend on little figures,'' Verbeek concludes.

"we need to be braver in the final third" is true, but bravery without composure is just rushing. Look at how many chances got dragged wide, we should be more direct with the first-time pass.
The comparison to last season's pressing is fair, but dont forget, we sometimes press too high and then the back line panics. I want to see more compactness between the lines, then the chances will come clean. 90% of this is spacing. 💯
Tbh i dont buy the whole "tactically perfect" take. The fullbacks pushing up is fine, but when they get bypassed in transition, it instantly becomes chaos in the middle. Need more cover, not just vibes.
Honestly, im waiting to see if the striker can make runs behind like the article hints. If he drops too deep, the midfield will have no outlet and we just cross into traffic. Its all about timing, imo. 👀
Nah, i disagree. The way they stretched the fullbacks was the whole point, and the timing of the runs was clean. De Jong was solid and the press triggered some easy recoveries, thats the recipe. 🔥⚽
Wie kijkt mee? 👀 Also, the PSV intensity was there, but we need that final pass to be more ruthless. When we slowed down, you could feel the momentum swing, bruh 💀
"PSV's energy in transition" is the point for me. When we hit that first sprint, it is scary. If we manage the second ball better, thats 2-0 energy every time. 🔥⚽
That quote about
"PSV can turn any game around" - maybe, but today we need a Plan B when the wings get pinned. I want more direct runs from the half spaces, not just recycling possession. 👀
Imo the defensive line looked shaky at times, too many runners getting in behind between the CB and the fullback. I would rather see a bit more compactness there and let the wingbacks go when we are actually secure. Tbh, if we fix that, the attacking patterns will hit harder.
Die wissels gaan me echt stressen. Als the article is right about changing the shape, i just hope they dont kill the intensity we had in the first phase. Anders krijg je weer een saaie slotfase.
Bro this article saying PSV can dominate without changing shape is cap. You need at least one tactical trigger when the opponent sits deep, otherwise it becomes the same recycling around the box. Still, quick wingers will cook them.
The quote about "building through midfield" is true, but you can see we need a clearer plan when the build-up gets pressed. Gakpo dropping deep helps, yet our wide rotations felt a bit late... still, there were moments of absolute fire 🐐🔥
The way it mentions the fullbacks pushing higher is risky. If they get caught once, the counter is going to be brutal. I think we need clear instructions for the wingers to cover the space behind.
i like how PSV pushed the tempo through the middle, especially with the way they rotated after winning the second ball. Still, if we keep giving those cheap half-spaces, teams will punish us fast. Today felt like progress but not fully controlled, ngl.
If PSV start playing like the article suggests, with more control in midfield, im actually excited. But i need to see the build up not get slow, otherwise teams will just press and we lose it on the half turn. Lets go, but no passengers.
If PSV wants to play that faster build-up, they gotta stop giving away cheap balls in midfield. Hirving's pressing was decent, but still looks like we get caught between lines way too often.
If PSV really went with that 4-2-3-1 again, i can already see the midfield getting overrun when the press comes. De Jong has to screen better, otherwise it turns into chaos by minute 20.
