In Groningen they are counting on a deal with PSV.
1 min readHe is actually not yet ready for the big work. And so the best option seems to be to stay in Groningen for now. Will Tygo Land ever manage to get PSV’s first win?
The same question can be raised about the future of Isaac Babadi, who in Antwerp can count on fewer playing minutes than Tygo Land in Groningen can count on playing minutes. And yet, people in Groningen hope that Land will stay for another season.
In particular, head coach Dick Lukkien hopes that Land will play for FC Groningen again next season. The scorer of the 2-0 against NEC, which was ultimately beaten 2-1, is this season on loan from PSV. Land still has great potential, but simply needs playing time. In Groningen, there are inevitably more minutes in the offing than in Eindhoven, where his potential was brought to the fore only sparingly.
Lukkien has made no secret in the past few weeks that he wouldn’t mind if Land also remains in the picture for Groningen next season. On Sunday evening, the coach emphasizes that once again. "I would very much like him to stay," Lukkien said in conversation with ESPN.

"I think that Tygo is developing enormously. Today he was really very good for an entire hour. You can see that young players have a need for rhythm and can develop in an environment where football is played, which I think also fits with PSV. So I would very much like to keep him there."
Lucien still has to see it all or whether Land can stay longer at FC Groningen. "I may be speaking a bit out of turn, because I’m not a technical director. But I do think he’s doing very well and is having a great time. The advantage is that his family lives nearby. Let’s see how it goes. The fact that he is doing very well right now and that we are very happy with him is beyond doubt."

I like that Lukkien is honest, he literally admits he is talking outside his role. If his family is nearby and he is enjoying it, then no surprise they hope he stays. PSV should still have a plan, otherwise this turns into a long loan loop.
That line about Lukkien "talking a bit out of turn" is kind of funny, but also honest. I like the idea that the footballing style fits what PSV likes too, so maybe this loan is actually the right pathway.
You can tell Dick Lukkien really wants Tygo Land to stay. The quote
Good for Land, but PSV fans should be cautious. If he needs an entire extra season to get the "big work", then what does that say about his readiness back at PSV? Still, 1 hour of really good play is promising.
The part where Lukkien says he is
Good on Tygo for taking the minutes in Groningen. Lukkien saying he was
I get why Groningen wants to keep Tygo Land, Dick Lukkien basically begged him to stay. That quote about needing rhythm makes total sense, but I still worry PSV will miss out on minutes like this.
As a PSV fan I get why they want Tygo Land to stay at Groningen. Dick Lukkien sounds genuinely convinced, and he did say he saw him

I get why Groningen want to keep Tygo Land, Lukkien basically called out that he needs rhythm more than anything. But as a PSV fan it still stings, because we know he has potential. If we cannot give minutes, do we lose him for development? Tough balance.
