Guus Til makes a bizarre statement public about referee Van der Eijk and an Eagles player: “Nonsense—suspend them with immediate effect”

A downright bizarre coincidence of circumstances at De Adelaarshorst, where home side Go Ahead Eagles PSV easily saw off. Without too much effort but with regular good football, Peter Bosz's team ran away with it to 1-4.

However, this did not happen without incident, because referee Sander van der Eijk decided to referee his own match. Bizarrely, his decision was not to award a penalty to the team of Peter Bosz, but his statement to Guus Til nevertheless topped everything. 

In the opening phase, Guus Til was brought down in the box after Kramer caught Til’s ankle with his studs. The VAR called referee Martin van den Kerkhoff over to the screen, but he surprisingly decided not to award a penalty. A lot of controversy immediately erupted on social media about the decision. However, after a very minimal foul by Kiliann Sildillia on Oliver Breum, Van den Kerkhoff, on the other hand, did point firmly to the spot.

What followed was in fact a pair of very remarkable statements by both referee Sander van der Eijk and by some players of the home club. 'You're already champions, why are you doing this? If I keep standing, I can also receive the ball,' said Guus Til about a player from The Eagles who was walking toward Til. It then got even crazier because Til revealed what Van der Eijk said. 'A referee who sticks to the rulebook would give a penalty here, but I sense the match,' Til said about Van der Eijk's remark, after which his laughter couldn't be contained.

We can naturally imagine everything there, because decisions and statements of this kind do not belong on a football pitch. Van der Eijk is therefore receiving plenty of criticism on social media. “Nonsense, suspend this referee immediately,” a PSV fan suggests on X. “What a level this man has, how do you come up with saying this?” says another critical PSV fan.
