International media point to former PSV player: “A very strong game”

1 min read

The Netherlands national team secured first place in Group F late Friday night. After a 1-3 win over Tunisia and a draw in the Japan–Sweden match (1-1), Ronald Koeman's team will go through as number 1 to the next round, where a confrontation with Morocco is on the schedule.

Afterwards, the international media are full of praise for Oranje's performance. ''The prize for beating Tunisia is avoiding Brazil in the round of sixteen. Now an attractive confrontation with Morocco is waiting. The Oranje bus, a specially converted double-decker, arrived almost a month ago in South Texas and has already been to Dallas, Houston and Kansas City. Now a journey of more than 1600 kilometers to Monterrey awaits'', writes the British newspaper The Guardian.

The victory over Tunisia has not gone unnoticed in Spain either. ''Without any problems, they finished the group stage of the World Cup. Although the game was not always equally spectacular, Oranje made clear the difference in quality'', writes Dario Sport.

In Belgium, reference is made to former PSV defender Denzel Dumfries, who will play for Real Madrid after the World Cup. ''No assists and no goals, but still Dumfries put in a great performance. The new right-back of Real Madrid took care of the entire right flank and dominated with his strength and speed. He came close to a goal several times, but things didn’t go his way today,'' according to Sporza.

''After 10 minutes we thought we would need a counting frame, but in the end the Netherlands won quite a sober victory against Tunisia. Oranje went quickly into a two-goal lead, but then the attacking machine stalled'', the sports outlet writes, among other things, about Oranje's performance.

"beresterke wedstrijd" for Dumfries is fair tbh, he ran the whole flank even when the final ball wasnt there. But i still think the article is missing the bigger issue, that attacking machine really did stall after that fast 2-0 start. Koeman will need more consistency vs Marokko, not just bursts.

"Een beresterke wedstrijd" voor Dumfries ja... maar tbh als je rechts echt domineert, moet je toch minstens één actie afronden. Wel lekker dat ze in België dezelfde kant zien als wij vroeger met PSV, tempo en power op die flank 🔥

Crazy how the media are praising Oranje for being "sober" but still getting it done. Still, Dumfries getting called out as a beast despite no goals or assists feels spot on. If we had that kind of right-sided control at PSV lately, we'd be cooking 🔥

i mean oké, 1-3 tegen Tunesië is prima, maar na dat dubbele voorsprong ging het wat stroef. Dumfries werd toch weer geroemd, maar ik vraag me af of Oranje rechts genoeg controle hield na de vroege goal(s).
