Conflicting reports about Luuk de Jong, football fans lash out after publication

1 min read

Suddenly and out of nowhere, many notifications and, in particular, conflicting notifications about Luuk de Jong and his future. The striker and figurehead of PSV is shown with all kinds of clubs and therefore also with PSV.

From Portugal, quite a number of contradictory reports are coming in about the future of Luuk de Jong. Various media outlets are reporting different things about the future of the injured striker. According to ZeroZero, FC Porto will not renew the 35-year-old striker’s expiring contract, but according to A Bola, the club and the player are still exactly in talks with each other.

De Jong left last summer on a free transfer from PSV and, during the open day, was suddenly presented out of the blue as a new signing for Porto. The full stadium of FC Porto was captivated during the presentation of the striker. In the end, De Jong only played in seven matches for the new Portuguese champions. In the top match against Sporting CP (1-2 win), he scored his only goal of the season at the end of August.

Soon after, De Jong suffered a first injury that kept him off the field until November. Shortly after his return it went badly, because De Jong tore his cruciate ligament.

De Jong signed a one-year contract with Porto last summer, including an option for a second year. However, that will not be happening: Zerozero reports that De Jong has decided to return to the Netherlands this summer due to a “delicate family matter”. The outlet writes further on that it concerns an illness affecting someone in his immediate circle. “If he continues playing football, it will be for a Dutch club”, sounds from Portugal about De Jong, who in the Netherlands is being highlighted differently by the outlet Voetbalzone.

The Ball also talks about 'family circumstances', but instead states that no decision has yet been made about De Jong's future and that both parties are still in talks with each other about a possible contract extension. Voetbalzone seems, through the headline of an article, to suggest a renewed future at PSV by writing 'Luuk de Jong returns to Eindhoven', whereas this appears to be related to family circumstances. This puts Voetbalzone on the receiving end of very harsh criticism and accusations, as evidenced by the reports on X.

I'll take the tactical talk, but I want to see the chances get finished. Nice buildup is cool, yet we need goals to back it up.

Honestly, the game plan sounds like a PSV classic, aggressive but with structure. If the press holds for 90, we're going to annoy every opponent in the league.

As a PSV fan, I'm not complaining about intensity. If they build these chances early like the article suggests, opponents wont have much time to settle.

I'm still not convinced about the front line. We look dangerous in bursts, but teams that sit deep always make it harder after 60 minutes.

I'm curious how long it takes before everyone clicks with the system. The article mentions quick combinations, but I want to see it under pressure against tougher opponents.

The bit about the new attacking patterns actually makes sense to me. Watching the way they rotate inside the box, it feels like they're finally more ruthless in the final third.

I get the optimism, but I still worry about the defensive cover when the fullbacks push up. If that press gets broken, it can turn into a sprint back.

Really liked how PSV kept control in midfield. When the article says they can be "aggressive without losing shape", that felt spot on.

That bit about the fullbacks making early overlaps sounds great on paper. I just hope they don't leave space behind when the counter hits.

If PSV actually want to keep the ball higher up, I love the intent. The midfield pressure has to be real though, otherwise it turns into pointless possession.
