FC Twente wants to stay ahead of Ajax, Enschede sets its sights on Eindhoven: “We haven’t won anything yet”
1 min readNext Sunday, the last Eredivisie match of the 2025/2026 season is already on the agenda. PSV plays at home against FC Twente and for the Tukkers this match is of great importance.
John van den Brom’s side are, in fact, in third place after the 4-0 win over Sparta Rotterdam and NEC’s 2-1 defeat away at FC Groningen, a position that grants entry to the Champions League qualifying round. In addition, Ajax lost at the last moment at home 1-2 to FC Utrecht and so the side from Enschede has the qualifying round of the billion-dollar competition within reach.
A win by FC Twente in Eindhoven automatically means that the Tukkers will go to the Champions League qualifying round next season. In the event of a draw or a victory by PSV, the team of Van den Brom depends on the results of NEC at home against Go Ahead Eagles and Ajax away at sc Heerenveen.
The coach of FC Twente is in any case looking forward to the match against champions PSV. ''We haven't got anything yet. We are very aware of that. But we're also going to have a great week,'' said Van den Brom after the match to Tubantia.

The coach is indeed very pleased with the win over Sparta and the results of the rivals NEC and Ajax. ''These are days in football when everything falls into place. We play well. We step it up in the second half and we score good and beautiful goals. And then there are the favorable results from the other pitches as well. That’s very nice as a bonus'', said a radiant Van den Brom.
Captain Bart van Rooij was also, after the final whistle, pleased against Tubantia with winning third place, and the defender is entering the match at the Philips Stadium with confidence. ''But we haven't achieved anything yet. This gives confidence. We’re going to enjoy this victory and we’re looking forward to next week. It will be a special match. The tension is building. Of course. These are the matches that made me want to become a footballer,'' said Van Rooij.
Thomas van den Belt also hopes that FC Twente next week will take the three points and, with them, participation in the Champions League preliminary round back to Enschede. ''We’ll see. Not many teams have won in Eindhoven this season. But we hope that we will be one of them,'' the midfielder told Tubantia after the match against Sparta.

PSV needs to be sharp early. If we let Twente get settled like they did after that Sparta game, it will get stressful fast. Van Rooij talks big, now we just have to prove we're not an easy stepping stone.
I get the excitement, but the article keeps repeating
Bart van Rooij confident is fine, but I'm watching Thomas van den Belt too. If he gets time on the ball, Twente will keep building. PSV need to press him from the first minute.
I like the ambition from Twente, but PSV will not just hand over points. If Twente need favors from NEC and Ajax too, it just feels like they are already looking past us.
That 4-0 vs Sparta is scary. The article says they hit the gas in the second half and scored "good and beautiful goals" and you just know Twente will come with that same vibe at the Philips Stadion.
PSV at home is usually a fortress, but I get why Twente are so confident after that 4-0 vs Sparta. Van den Brom and Van Rooij keep saying
The article makes it sound like PSV basically already knows what their job is. Still, if Twente score first, it will get tense. I want us to go for the early goal and kill the 'beautiful week' talk.
Big week for PSV, Twente are basically playing for the Champions League pre-round at our place. Van den Brom saying
I like how they crushed Sparta 4-0 and also how the NEC and Ajax results opened the door for them. But PSV at home is always different, I just hope we control the midfield instead of chasing shadows.
I like Van den Brom's confidence, but "we have nothing yet" is the right mindset. If PSV even draws, Twente still has to rely on NEC and Ajax results, so it feels like a lot of pressure on them.
That quote
Van den Brom saying
Honestly Twente are playing with confidence, but the 'we have still nothing' line is exactly what scares me. If PSV slips for a bit, that third-place pressure turns into a siege.
