FC Twente watcher on a defender linked to PSV: “Perhaps he will play on Sunday against his new club.”
1 min readNext Sunday, PSV has the final league match of the season on the schedule. At the home Philips Stadion, Peter Bosz's team will take on number 3 FC Twente, which is in the running for a spot in the Champions League qualifying rounds.
The team of John van den Brom took over third place last Sunday following a 4-0 home victory over Sparta Rotterdam and a defeat for their rivals NEC away at FC Groningen (2-1). The Tukkers now have a two-point lead over the team from Nijmegen, with only one match still to be played.
In addition, it also appears that FC Twente will lose many players this coming summer. Among other things, defenders Ruud Nijstad and Mats Rots are in the sights of major clubs and PSV is also said to be in the running for both defenders.
FC Twente watcher Geert-Jan Jakobs from Voetbal International also fears a busy transfer summer in Enschede. ''I'm curious how many players will leave there after the season. A few guys have certainly come into view. Bart van Rooij, Mats Rots, Ruud Nijstad. There is money at stake on the pitch'', Jakobs says in Rondje Eredivisie of VI.

Ruud Nijstad has not renewed Jacob's contract in good faith, and moreover there is plenty of pulling on the talented defender. ''He still has a year, but everything is being pushed to the fullest there. I think the chance is big that he will leave. To go abroad? Well, maybe he will be playing on Sunday against his new club. I would think it a great option if PSV were to pick him up now,'' FC Twente watcher says about it.
According to Jacobs, big teams should not wait to sign Nijstad. ''He is not yet ready to play everything at a higher level, but he is a player you have to get now, with that contract. If you wait now, you will be too late later. Then the real big powers will come onto the market and it will become even more difficult to get him'', says the journalist.
Besides Nijstad, left back Mats Rots would also attract interest from PSV, and according to the FC Twente watcher, clubs should also not wait to secure Rots. ''And that actually applies to Mats Rots as well. He is not yet strong enough defensively, but if you yourself dominate as a top club, then you really can field him as a left back. Ideally, another year at FC Twente would be good, but players often don’t think that way. If they can, then they make that step,'' concludes Jakobs.

Honestly, I just want to see more ruthlessness in the final third. PSV can move the ball nicely, but the article hinting at better game management is exactly what we need in big matches.
Not fully convinced by the talk of
Gut feeling is that Johan Bakayoko will be the key. When he faces up the defender early, it feels like PSV get momentum straight away. I hope the coaching staff backs that and doesnt slow it down too much.
Not convinced by the midfield balance. If the article's plan is to dominate possession but keep it too slow, teams will just pack it in and force PSV to cross into traffic.
The mention of player X stepping up in the build-up is spot on. When PSV keep the tempo and play forward quickly, it feels like they can hurt anyone in the league.
The part about the full-backs being more aggressive is interesting. My worry is if they overcommit, PSV can get punished in transition, especially against quick wingers.
If PSV really go with that high press again, I love the intent. But the article has to show how they stop the counter when that back line gets stretched.
If PSV really push the tempo through the midfield like the article says, that could unlock teams that sit deep. I love seeing Xavi Simons linked with those vertical passes, he just makes everything faster.
