Coach FC Groningen points to PSV
1 min readAfter a difficult start at FC Groningen, PSV loanee Tygo Land is almost impossible to keep out of the starting lineup of the Dutch club from Groningen. In the home match against NEC, Land was still on target for Dick Lukkien's side.
Thanks in part to this goal, De Trots van het Noorden won 2-1 against NEC and thereby the Nijmegen side relinquished third place to FC Twente. After the match, FC Groningen coach Dick Lukkien spoke highly of Land.
Lukkien hopes that he can also enjoy the young midfielder in FC Groningen’s green-and-white colors next season. ''I really want him to stay. I think Tygo has developed enormously. Today, he was really very good for an hour'', Lukkien said on Sunday afternoon about the PSV loanee to ESPN after the match against NEC.
''You can see that young players need rhythm and can develop in an environment where football is played, which I also think fits with PSV. So I would very much like to keep him there,'' the coach continues.

Despite that, Lukkien knows that he does not decide whether Land will also play next season in Groningen on loan basis. ''I talk a bit out of turn, because I’m not a technical director. But I do think that he’s very much enjoying it. The advantage is that his family lives nearby. Let’s see how things go. The fact that he’s doing very well now and that we are very happy with him is beyond doubt,'' the coach concludes.

Not sure I buy all the praise for the build-up. PSV can look beautiful for 10 minutes, then suddenly it gets slower and more predictable. Still though, the squad feels like it has more gears this season.
I like the optimism, but I still worry about the full-back positioning. When PSV push high, it feels like there is always one sprint behind the line and it turns into a scramble.
Pretty solid read. The talk about substitutions and game management is spot on, especially late in matches. PSV usually looks comfortable when we can control the last 20 minutes.
Interesting that PSV Inside is pointing to the midfield balance as the key. If they can keep the spacing and stop those quick counters, Gakpo and the wingers will have way more joy.
I'm not convinced about the midfield balance mentioned. When the double pivot gets too flat, teams press us and suddenly the wide options disappear. Need more movement across the lines.
Love how the article focuses on PSV being brave in the build-up. If they can keep that tempo without losing the ball, we win these games more often than not.
