Attacker heading to the exit?: “Has to manage on their own”
1 min readIn the summer of 2024, Couhaib Driouech moved from Excelsior to PSV and since then Driouech has mainly had to make do with substitute appearances in Eindhoven, given the fierce competition on the left wing. In 2024/2025, the winger had to mainly keep Noa Lang at bay, and last season Driouech had to settle for a reserve role behind Ivan Perisic.
Last Saturday Ruben van Bommel was given preference over Driouech and the winger even had to see that the eighteen-year-old Amir Bouhamdi was allowed to come on earlier. Thanks in part to this, it is still a question whether Driouech will also be a PSV player in 2026/2027.
According to PSV watcher Rik Elfrink of Eindhovens Dagblad, it makes sense if the winger-forward were to choose to leave. “That would make this summer a logical moment to make a transfer, but then a sum of money running into quite a few million has to be put on the table,” writes Elfrink in the ED.
''In addition, Driouech himself must manage to find a club that's interested'', the journalist continues.
Over the past month, rumors have emerged that, among others, Genoa FC from Italy and Celta de Vigo from Spain would have shown interest in the PSV player. According to Elfrink, a domestic transfer is less likely.
''At PSV, he has things under control and it remains to be seen whether that can be the case in a new situation in the same way. That’s why a transfer to, for example, NEC, which has been suggested elsewhere at times, is not necessarily logical now. Earlier, for example, Celta de Vigo got in touch with PSV about him, but until recently it was still unclear whether that Spanish club would push ahead'', Elfrink concludes.

Rik Elfrink zegt "moet zelf rond zien te komen met een geïnteresseerde club" en dat is precies het probleem. Genoa en Celta zijn geruchten, maar hoe serieus zijn die? Als hij geen basisgarantie krijgt, dan is het risico groot dat hij weer op de bank eindigt. Ik snap het vertrek, maar ik wil wel een echte oplossing, niet een zijstap.
"Daarmee zou deze zomer een logisch moment kunnen worden om een transfer te maken" tja, logisch ja. In Eindhoven heb je gewoon geen ruimte als je geen startplek afpakt. Genoa of Celta klinkt dan wel als een upgrade qua speeltijd, maar alleen als hij daar ook echt gaat spelen.

Die miljoenen die ED noemt gaan lastig worden als zijn rol nog steeds reserverol is. Ik zou willen dat PSV hem niet te snel kwijt raakt, maar met Bouhamdi die zelfs eerder invallen krijgt, snap ik de twijfels.
tbh dit klinkt als pure bench-issues. als je achter Lang, daarna Perisic en nu ook Van Bommel belandt dan is het niet raar dat Driouech vertrekt. maar ja, PSV laat hem alleen gaan als er gewoon miljoenen binnenkomen, anders houden we niks over.
bruh, als je vooral achter Lang en Perisic staat dan is het inderdaad slim om te kiezen voor meer speeltijd. Tbh wel jammer, want Driouech heeft momenten, maar je kan niet telkens hopen op invallen. Als Genoa echt serieus is, dan is dat tenminste een stap vooruit qua minuten.
