De Telegraaf places Michel next to Peter Bosz: “That’s nice to see”

Peter Bosz at PSV in the 2026/2027 season goes in search of the fourth consecutive league title. Since Bosz was appointed in the summer of 2023, a different wind has been blowing at PSV and the team has won the league title every season.

That is completely the opposite in competitive Ajax. In Amsterdam, with the Spanish coach Míchel already, they have had the eighth coach in three years.

According to Mike Verweij of De Telegraaf, there are many similarities between the approach of the Spaniard and Francesco Farioli, under whom the Amsterdammers in the 2024/2025 season on the penultimate matchday relinquished first place to PSV after a 2-2 draw at FC Groningen. Verweij says this in the podcast Kick-off of De Telegraaf.

In this context, the journalist points to the training match Ajax - Burnley (2-1) from last weekend. ''In the second half, you could really see the idea of Míchel. The crowd embraces that. That’s the way Ajax should play, must play. Fun, attacking football with young and home-grown players; that is also always appreciated. The strange thing is that they finished fifth last year and barely managed to reach the Conference League preliminary round, but it seems they’ve all already forgotten that. Everyone went outside cheering and whistling. The idea behind Míchel’s game is already being embraced now. That’s nice to see'', says Verweij.

After that, the reporter draws the comparison between Míchel and Farioli, which also points to Peter Bosz. ''A lot is asked of the players. I was called once at 6.30 pm in the evening; at that time Ajax was still training. The comparison with Farioli is made quickly. I don’t think the style of play is comparable: Farioli is more cautious than Míchel; I think Míchel looks more like Peter Bosz. Much more attacking and much more reckless. Although Ajax also doesn’t give much away'', the journalist believes.

Still, Verweij believes more that you can compare the Spaniard earlier with the Italian rather than with Bosz. ''But the approach under Farioli—very long work, lots of grinding, and making the players incredibly fit—that has at times also been lacking at Ajax in recent years, and it does overlap. There are certainly similarities with Farioli, but not the style of play'', the reporter said.
