Analysts advise PSV | 'incomprehensible that PSV doesn’t buy him'
1 min readThe gentlemen from Vandaag Inside, or rather René van der Gijp, are tipping PSV and, in effect, the overall top-three, about a player who would be worth taking over from FC Utrecht.
Valentijn Driessen sees it differently, however, because the critic at De Telegraaf has already often indicated that Soufian El Karouani would not be very good at defending, even though that is his core task.
René van der Gijp in turn finds it, at any rate, “incomprehensible” that PSV, but also Ajax and Feyenoord, have not yet taken El Karouani over from FC Utrecht. The analyst sees that the Utrecht defender has enormous quality with his shot, but Van der Gijp seems to have forgotten that there is a hefty price tag hanging around the neck of the FC Utrecht defender.
“Do you know who also has quality, it’s incomprehensible that the top three don’t buy that kid. That left back from Utrecht,” Van der Gijp says about Utrecht standout El Karouani. “Every set piece is almost a chance, that’s a quality, you know. That boy has an amazing free kick. Corners, free kicks, everything. That really is quality, you know.”

El Karouani was indeed one of the standouts this season and last season for FC Utrecht, with his eleven assists in the Eredivisie. PSV has already made enquiries about El Karouani, who is under contract with Utrecht until June 30. In the meantime, Al Qadsiah now appears set to become his new club in the Saudi Pro League.

Brilliant if it works, but i saw the same issue before: slow build-up then everyone panics. Get the tempo right and it turns into a 3-0 type night, keep it messy and it becomes 2-2 vibes... 💀
I like the idea of switching play quicker, but they have to protect the second ball. If they lose it near the box too often, then the whole game plan collapses fast. 👀
Wie kijkt mee? 😅
If that back line played one step higher, the wingers would have way more 1v1s. Right now the gaps open for the opponent and it turns into damage control.
🔥🔥🔥
Solid point about the fullbacks. If they keep overlapping without covering behind, you get punished on the counter. Could be peak for attack, but you gotta manage the transitions or it will be a long night 🤡
Eens. Lets be real, the pressing was the difference. When they won it in their first wave, the whole game felt calmer 🔥💯
"PSV Inside" always makes it sound easy lol. tbh the midfield spacing looked off, especially when they went 4-3-3. Defend higher, then control the second ball... quick adjustments needed 🚀⚽
Weghorst showing for the ball again, thats exactly what PSV need in transition. But imo the midfield still hesitates, and that kills the tempo.
tbh im worried about the fullback cover. When they step up, the wide spaces open and opponents just rotate it back to the weak side... we cannot be caught like that again. 🔥
If PSV are really going to play that high press, i need the midfield to be more aggressive, because last match they were a second late too often. Do that and Noni can finally run in behind more.
Tbh i like the way they set up the press, but if Til keeps drifting inside, we will get punished on the switch. Keep it tight, Sangare needs to cover more space.
That comment about needing more control in midfield is spot on imo. I like Sangare but sometimes he has to turn faster and not give the ball away in the same zone every time.
If PSV insist on playing those half-space rotations, Xavi Simons has to be the trigger. Otherwise it turns into predictable wingers crossing all day... not good enough against the better presses. I need Saibari to get more direct touches too, less fiddling.
i swear if PSV keep pressing like that they are going to create more big chances. But i want to see the back line deal with the counter quicker though, too many half-clears.
