Doubts about PSV’s interest and the millions that need to be invested | “Are they short of what PSV needs?”

1 min read

The match PSV - FC Twente showed that both potential PSV-1 players still need to take the necessary steps. Nevertheless, it is frequently about Mats Rots and Ruud Nijstad. Especially in relation to a future at PSV.

The two Twente defenders were the subject of discussion in regional media last week. Analyst Bert van Losser wonders whether Rots and Nijstad are already good enough to come into view for PSV 1. 'Are they falling short for PSV?', it sounds. Bert Konterman, a former top player, analyzes the play of both against PSV.

'Three goals, not all of them are scored by Rots and Nijstad, but when you look at it—shots from distance, crosses, how far they’re still being defended from the direct opponent... I would say that’s just how it is in the Netherlands. Inside the six-yard box, the defending is dramatic", says Konterman in De Oosttribune.

"I think, especially in one-on-one duels, those boys really still need to take steps forward. Especially Rots", Konterman analyzes. "That should happen at FC Twente. You just need to get started on that." Former coach and player Jan van Staa also responds in turn with the idea that both specialist coaches should be assigned. "What I advocate: you should hire specialists. You should train that kind of player. Those boys need to work on that. That is where the biggest gain lies."

Van Staa continues his analysis: "Look at Nijstad. You can now see such a goal", he points to a PSV goal in the last matchday. "Weghorst, he also had a moment like that, where he was too far away from the man. He has to say: You don't head it, I head it. Or the other way around. You can't go into the duel like that. He has to learn that he always has to feel his man."

Journalist and criticaster Tijmen van Wissing points to Jaap Stam, a top player of days gone by. "I can still remember that Jaap Stam had that role at PEC. It was really interesting to follow those trainings. How he would just shout... Those little habits..." Van Staa then slides Konterman forward. "You shouldn't throw that knowledge overboard. Konterman also worked there when I was there, that doesn't matter at all. I know how he defends. He knows the English league, he knows what's being asked. Those guys will benefit from that. And also the club."

Not sure i agree with the idea that PSV can rely on wing play alone. If the full-backs dont push earlier, the wide overload never arrives and the opponent just holds the half-spaces. Would love to see more central rotations and quicker third-man passes, not just more crosses. 👀

If that midfield quote is true, then we were way too open in transition. Sangare needs to be braver on the ball or teams will keep bypassing him with one pass. 👀

Wie kijkt mee? 👀🔥 Maar serieus, ik ben benieuwd hoe de opbouw eruit ziet zonder te veel risico. Als Vertessen weer buitenom gaat, moet de linkerkant sneller meeverplaatsen.

Eens. but i still dont trust the fullback recovery when the winger tugs inside. If this is going to work, Til and Veerman must win the second balls consistently, otherwise it turns into chaos quickly 👀

If PSV really want to press like the article says, then they need De Jong on the ball more. Right now their escapes after turnovers look too slow for a top-side tempo, and that gives opponents easy counters 🔥🐐

I swear PSV always looks one step away from being elite, then the midfield balance goes missing. If they want more control vs press, the build-up needs better spacing from the 8. That quote about "intensity" is nice but i want the patterns to match it 🔥⚽

Goed dat PSV dit soort wedstrijden wil controleren, maar als Saibari blijft in de halfspaces hangen dan wordt het vaak voorspelbaar. Tbh ik wil meer overloads op links, anders krijg je te weinig echte kansen.
