Peter Bosz speaks out about attackers: “He knows it himself too.”
1 min readPSV lost last Saturday at the FANday to Spanish Villarreal 1-3. Ruben van Bommel did return to the starting lineup, however, and Van Bommel was ultimately replaced at half-time by Amir Bouhamdi.
On July 18, the left winger had already made his first minutes in the friendly match against Union Saint-Gilloise (7-3) after more than ten months out injured. Last season, the wide attacker suffered a severe cruciate ligament injury in the home match against Ajax (2-2), which kept him sidelined for the rest of the football season.
Despite the fact that the attacker is back on the field again, it does not mean that he is already 100% fit. Coach Peter Bosz makes that clear in an interview with Voetbal International.
''But he is really only at the beginning and still has to travel a very long road. The fact that he can play again now does not mean that he is fully fit again. He knows that himself too. I’m very happy that he is already that far and that he is taking those steps,'' Bosz tells VI.
Also Alassane Pléa is back in the match squad after more than a year of injury trouble, and according to the coach he is still in recovery. With the Frenchman, Bosz says, it is therefore a lot more difficult to estimate how long it will take before the striker is fully fit again.
''We know a lot about knee ligament injuries, unfortunately, we know more about those. The injury that Lasso had was a very, very, very nasty one. One that we know far less about. And that we wondered for a long time whether it would still be possible to make a comeback. But good, Lasso has also worked hard and is making progress. Fortunately, that’s going very well'', says the coach.
In addition, it is difficult to predict whether the French forward will come back to his old level. ''I don't dare say anything about that, but that's the intention. I sat down with him and asked how far he is in percentages. It's very hard to say, but he was talking about 70 percent. In training sessions and matches, we see that he is gradually getting back into the duels; against Union he was already more involved than in the first match of the preseason against Antwerp. Those are all steps'', Bosz said.

70 procent klinkt ok, maar als je vooruit wil dan moet je sneller richting 100. Als Pléa en Lasso nog niet helemaal scherp zijn, dan wordt de vraag natuurlijk hoe Bosz Villarreal-achtige momenten blijft oplossen, want in de rust stond het al niet lekker.
"maar hij staat echt nog maar aan het begin" tja, dit is precies waarom ik tegen die 1-3 met Villarreal zo zuur kijk. Als Lasso en Plea niet fit zijn, dan mis je meteen dat extra doelpunt-gezag in de box. 70 procent klinkt oké, maar we willen gewoon piekvoetbal, nu.
Bosz is echt eerlijk hier. Ruben van Bommel terug en dan in de rust vervangen door Bouhamdi zegt genoeg over hoe voorzichtig ze zijn met ritme en minuten. Hopelijk bouwen ze die stappen rustig door, anders blijft het gokken op timing.
Bosz zegt letterlijk dat hij nog maar aan het begin staat en niet 100% is. Tbh snap ik die voorzichtigheid wel na die kruisband, maar ik hoop wel dat we dit soort spelers straks niet alleen "stappen" laten zetten.
