De Telegraaf on the million-euro transfer of Mijnans to PSV: 'That was the biggest problem for Ajax'

Sven Mijnans's transfer to PSV is simply no longer able to be stopped and can no longer be canceled. The midfielder from AZ was already in Eindhoven on Monday to undergo the medical examination.

Ajax was also interested in Mijnans, but for several reasons was unable to include in the offer from PSV, which in principle managed to get a relatively late deal for Mijnans. Ajax had recently already entered into talks with Mijnans, who, however, nevertheless managed to choose PSV.

De Telegraaf reports an update on the state of affairs and the movement of Mijnans to PSV. Champions League football would have been the decisive factor in Sven Mijnans' decision to join PSV. But there was more to it. At least that is what Ajax watcher and journalist Mike Verweij of De Telegraaf reports. Ajax therefore also did not make an official appearance in Alkmaar, where it did let its coach Michel have a conversation with Mijnans.

"Ajax found Mijnans a very interesting player", says Verweij in the Kick-off podcast of De Telegraaf. "There have been talks, but very quickly it became clear that Ajax would not be able to pay his desired salary", Verweij analyses.

"The biggest problem for Ajax was that PSV plays in the Champions League. The decision to go for Mijnans was therefore quickly made for PSV. In the end, Ajax didn't even contact Alkmaar", concludes Verweij.
