De Telegraaf: 'FC Twente duo high on PSV's list'
1 min readA day before the match between PSV and FC Twente, De Telegraaf reports that PSV has two FC Twente players in its sights. That will not make people in Enschede happy, but De Telegraaf is, however, very firm in its reporting.
It concerns Mats Rots and Ruud Nijstad, both of whom would be in the picture for PSV. Both players are on PSV’s list for this summer. That is reported by De Telegraaf. The duo from FC Twente broke through this season at the Grolsch Veste and put themselves in the spotlight of Earnie Stewart and his scouts, as De Telegraaf reports.
The twenty-year-old Rots was earlier this season already linked with PSV. The Italian Serie A club Como as well as other foreign clubs would also have Rots in their sights by now. The left-back played the second half of the 2024/25 season on loan at Heracles Almelo, but after a solid and serious development he is now considered a regular starter at FC Twente.
The younger brother of Daan Rots has already played 36 matches and recorded five goals and four assists. FC Twente recently exercised the option in Rots’ contract, which now keeps him tied down until mid-2028 at the Grolsch Veste. At PSV, Rots is viewed as a potential successor to Anass Salah-Eddine. As is well known, PSV has negotiated a purchase option in the loan contract with AS Roma, but in the meantime it still hasn’t reached an agreement with the hesitant left-back. Slowly, PSV appears to be orienting itself toward a replacement.

The eighteen-year-old Nijstad comes from the FC Twente/Heracles Academy and, since this season, has been part of FC Twente’s first team. Last season, Nijstad was also linked with PSV. The left-footed centre-back is also being linked with FC Barcelona and Bayern Munich in addition to PSV, but that seems premature for now. Nijstad’s contract runs out in the summer of 2027.

If PSV keep pressing like that, Til should get more touches in the half-space. But man, the buildup looked shaky when the first pass was under pressure. Need better rest defense after we win the ball ⚽👀
Rots as Salah-Eddine's successor makes sense, still im worried about the price and the timing. Earnie Stewart scouting them is one thing, but we should also see what Salah-Eddine actually wants. If PSV keep hesitating with the Roma option, then targeting Twente youth is the logical backup. 👍
If this is true, fair play to Twente but damn... we need a left-back who can start immediately. Mats Rots looks like the right profile for Salah-Eddine succession. But lets not panic and pay too much just because "De Telegraaf" says so 😅
