ESPN analyst tips NEC midfielder to PSV: “He’s always positioned well.”
1 min readDick Schreuder's NEC this season is one of the biggest surprises in the Netherlands. The Nijmegen side are still in contention for a Champions League qualifying place and this season also reached the Cup Final in which they were soundly beaten 5-1 by AZ.
According to ESPN analyst and former PSV player Marciano Vink, midfielder Darko Nejasmic is one of the reasons that Dick Schreuder’s surprise squad is performing so well this season. “My absolute favorite is really Nejasmic,” says Vink in the program Voetbalpraat on ESPN.
According to the former footballer, it would therefore also be a miracle if the Croat were to still wear the colors of the Nijmegen Eendracht Combinatie next season as well. ''I would really be surprised if he is still playing in that position at NEC next year. Not that I’ve heard anything, but what he’s brought to this NEC I find really impressive'', continues the ESPN analyst.
According to Vink, Nejasmic is a fantastic player. ''He really has to play in mega spaces, but positionally he is always in the right place. He has a midfield around him with nothing but stylists. I really think it's incredibly impressive what he does. And if you also look at the functional technique he has. Really a great player'', the analyst continues.

For Vink, it is therefore clear that the midfielder will have to make a transfer to the top three in the Netherlands this coming summer, but the former player also sees abroad as an option. ''If he goes to a team in the top three of the Netherlands, we would find that very normal. In the Bundesliga he can also play in the midtable top end. If you have such a functional, beautiful technique, you can play anywhere. He is really the find of this season'', concludes the former PSV player.
