“They called me a legend”

1 min read

Thanks to a goal in stoppage time by Couhaib Driouech, PSV won 4-3 against FC Utrecht on 4 April, only to then see that second-placed Feyenoord the next day could not do better than a goalless 0-0 draw away at FC Volendam. As a result, Peter Bosz’s team became the earliest champions in the history of the Eredivisie.

In conversation with Voetbal International, the forward looks back on this weekend. ''It was fantastic. On Saturday we played against FC Utrecht and in the 94th minute I scored the winning goal. Then you are part of the joy a bit more than usual. On Sunday I watched Feyenoord's match at home with family. That was a super-boring game, but of course it was still nice for us that, thanks to the draw, we were crowned champions'', Driouech tells PSV watcher Tim Reedijk.

After the match FC Volendam - Feyenoord, a real public celebration broke out on the Stratumseind. Driouech, who lives in Eindhoven, then decided to go outside with his sisters to join in the festivities.

During the celebration, number 11 of PSV got a torch in his hands from a supporter, but he had no clue what he was actually holding. ''Someone gave me a torch, but I didn't know what it was. What if it had been a cobra (firework, red.)? When I was sure it was a torch, I started waving it. After that, we went to a few tents and celebrated with the fans. They congratulated me, called me a legend, haha. Then quickly back home, you know, because it was getting too crowded. On Sunday evening, we still had a party with the club, and on Tuesday there was the award ceremony, and after that a celebration in the stadium,'' the forward looks back.

After that, Driouech goes into the fact that after winning the league title, PSV still had five matches left to play and how the winger approaches these games. ''For me, it feels like I still have everything to play for. I would like to show myself again, also with a view to the World Cup, which is very important to me. I want to increase my chances as much as possible'', the quick winger says.

The winger also does not want to say whether he actually has a chance of making the World Cup squad for Morocco. ''I really don’t know, but I have to do everything and then I’ll see. Playing for Morocco is a dream for me and my whole family. I think it’s realistic and that I can achieve it, but there are other people who have to make the choices. It’s up to me to make as much of an impression as possible and that’s what I’m trying to do. I hope they’ve seen all my goals and assists this season and that they’re watching'', said Driouech.

Wat mij opvalt is hoe hij zegt dat hij nog alles heeft om voor te spelen. Tbh die instelling is precies wat je nodig hebt in de laatste duels na titel. En ja, doelsaldo en assists moeten dit verhaal afmaken.

Tbh the real question is what happens in the next games after the title. If he still has "everything to play for", then Bosz better trust him, otherwise it gets wasted. His ambition for the Morocco WK is clear and i respect that.

Bosz getting the earliest title ever is wild, but i liked how the article shows the moment was shared. Couple more chances like that and Driouech will keep earning minutes for sure 🚀

Driouech 94ste minuut, echt peak PSV. Feyenoord 0-0 en dan ineens toch al kampioen, dat voelt als pure chaos maar wel in jouw voordeel 🔥⚽

The whole "legend" moment with the torch is so PSV, haha. Still, idk how you wave a torch and realize what it is halfway through lol.

94e minuut winner vs Utrecht en dan Feyenoord pas 0-0 laten liggen... dit was echt PSV in z'n puurste vorm. 🔥 Driouech was de killer en Bosz mag trots zijn.

That 94th minute winner by Driouech was pure chaos, i was screaming like crazy. And then the Feyenoord 0-0 vs Volendam just sealed it. Peak title drama 🔥
