BACK TO 2007 | Two goals in one minute
1 min readIn the 2006/2007 season, the match PSV - FC Twente was scheduled for 14 April 2007 during matchday 32 of the Eredivisie. PSV was in a difficult period in which, after the winter break, a substantial lead over rivals Ajax and AZ was squandered.
The match against the team from Enschede was therefore of great importance for Ronald Koeman’s team. PSV, after all, did not win any of the four matches prior to that.
PSV drew at the time with Excelsior (0-0), lost painfully at home to Ajax (1-5), subsequently drew with provincial rivals NAC Breda (1-1), and lost in matchday 31 on the road at NEC (2-1). On matchday 32, FC Twente therefore came to visit, and the Tukkers knew how to win against PSV in the second match round of that season, with a 1-0 victory.
Despite the slump PSV was in at the time, Ronald Koeman's team found the strength to stand back up in the home match against FC Twente. The big man on the side of PSV that evening was the Peruvian striker Jefferson Farfan.
In the nineteenth minute, the winger striker broke the deadlock, scoring 1-0 from a pass by captain Phillip Cocu. Less than a minute later, the Peruvian made it 2-0 from a pass by Edison Mendez.
After these goals in rapid succession, however, the score was not extended further and PSV also hardly got into danger anymore. Looking back, this victory proved to be crucial in the race for the national championship, where PSV, in the last matchday, surprisingly won the 20th league title.

Farfa's goals waren top, maar ik vind Cocu hier de echte sleutel als aanjager. Als je ziet hoe snel PSV scoorde na die zware reeks, dan snap je waarom die overwinning zo cruciaal was voor de titel.
"Twee doelpunten in een minuut tijd" en toch daarna nauwelijks gevaar. Dat vind ik juist volwassen, Koeman had ze goed staan. ⚽
Tbh na die 2-0 had ik verwacht dat PSV door zou pakken, maar het werd ineens doodrustig. Jammer van die kansen, maar het resultaat was natuurlijk goud waard met de titelrace in zicht. 🔥
Die wissel om in minuut 19 en 20 meteen te beslissen, dat zegt alles over die ploeg. Alleen jammer dat het daarna niet meer werd uitgebreid, maar goed, 2-0 is genoeg als je het ritme breekt. 👀
tbh that form dip is scary if you look at the run before Twente: 0-0, then 1-5 vs Ajax, 1-1 NAC, 2-1 NEC. But the way we handled that early pressure and scored twice so fast was peak Koeman energy imo.
That run in late winter was brutal, 4 wedstrijden geen winst, ajax 1-5 en dan toch scherp worden tegen Twente. Farfan en de opbouw met Cocu en Mendez lijkt precies het juiste antwoord.
2 goals in 1 minute is echt peak PSV. Farfan was toen echt onbreekbaar, lekker dat Cocu de assist had.
2 goals in under a minute and suddenly everything felt possible again... Farfan was pure chaos in the best way 🔥. Also that Cocu assist, man, what a moment.
Tbh toch knap dat PSV na Ajax-1-5 en die dip ineens weer scherp was. Jefferson strafte elke seconde, en daarna zakte PSV mooi terug zonder gevaar weg te geven. 💯
Farfan was echt on fire in die periode. Die 1-0 op aangeven van Cocu en dan gelijk 2-0, dat is gewoon genadeloos voetbal.
