Much astonishment and incomprehension after the unveiling of a 55-man Oranje squad: “This is personal.”

1 min read

Ronald Koeman has submitted his 55-man Oranje squad to FIFA. As expected, Joey Veerman is missing from this list. It has drawn a lot of criticism toward the national team coach.

Ronald Koeman simply isn’t interested in the midfielder from Volendam, who can leave for vacation with a clear conscience after PSV - FC Twente because Ronald Koeman will certainly not call on him.

Joey Veerman therefore not even on the 55-man list that Ronald Koeman submitted to FIFA at the beginning of this week. De Telegraaf reports that. All national team coaches of all countries taking part in the World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada must submit a list containing 55 names. Of those, 29 are still eliminated. The Dutch national team will ultimately go to the United States with 26 players.

Veerman therefore does not even belong, according to Koeman, among the 55 best players in the Netherlands. That’s where Veerman, of course, would belong, but Ronald Koeman doesn’t think the 27-year-old PSV player fits into his group of players—where he two years ago thought differently. Many Oranje fans react outraged on social media and now conclude that Ronald Koeman has a personal grudge against Joey Veerman.

"...build through the middle" is cap sometimes. If our striker drops too deep again, the final pass slows down and opponents reset. Move him earlier, and let Sangare/Schouten run the tempo. 💯

Goal!! De Jong looked like the calm driver today, but im not convinced the back line can handle sustained pressure without some cover behind the line. Still, at least we created chances... lets not waste them next game. W

The quote about "confidence on the ball" sounds nice, but we have to match it with defensive intensity. Otherwise we just invite pressure, and then it turns into panic clearances at the worst moments. 🙄

I like the idea of the fullback overlapping more, but i think the timing is off. If our winger doesnt hold the width, those runs turn into free space for the opponent. Make it sharper and we are cooking. 🚀

That line about the pressing starting "from the front" is true, but only if we dont lose the first duel. When the striker is too isolated, the rest of the team gets dragged out and it turns into chaos. 🔥

Charles De Ketelaere would be fire if we give him more direct touches in the half-spaces. Right now it feels like we overcook every attack, then pray for a moment of magic 🔥⚽

"PSV Inside" really got me thinking. The midfield shape looked okay, but when the ball goes wide, the second line hesitates too long. That is exactly how you invite pressure and then lose the ball for free. 💀

If this is another season of playing it safe in midfield, i swear we will choke in the big games. The article hints at "control", but we need faster switches, not more sideways passing. ⚽👀

I actually like what they tried with the fullback overlap, but the timing felt off. If Tillman is the one cutting inside, then we need the winger to hold width earlier, otherwise it gets too crowded in the half-spaces. 👀

So you're telling me PSV are better in the build-up because of that pressing trigger? Bro, if we press like that and still concede the transition, itll be another long night. 🔥⚽

Goal!! But also, can we talk about how reckless that defensive transition was? The moment we lost it centrally, Ajax-style counter pressure would have been deadly... good thing it worked out this time. 🤬

"control first"... yeah okay, but when the midfield is flat the opponent just slips the ball behind. We need a runner, not just possession.

Hard agree on the idea that the fullbacks must step higher. When they dont, the wingers have no outlet and everything turns into crosses that dont beat the first man. We need that first-time vertical pass way more. 🔥

Im sorry but the quote about "control first" sounds great, yet we still get exposed when the fullbacks push high. That defensive spacing is not consistent enough.

Watching the pressing triggers, we press like we want the ball but we dont win the second ball enough. That is how you end up conceding on transition, no matter how good the plans look.

Eens, the tactical shape looks nicer when we start with a midfielder dropping into space. But if Xavi Simons is allowed to drift too central, teams will just sit and wait for the pass.

P
PSV_Sven16 May, 10:42

If PSV is seriously trying to build through the middle with the same pressing triggers, i swear teams will just sit in and punish the half-spaces. Schouten needs to stay braver on the ball or we will end up playing safe sideways all night. 👀

If PSV are serious about keeping the ball, Timber has to be more brave in the build-up. Right now he looks one touch away from turning it over, and that kills our tempo.
