Belgian analyst points at Peter Bosz: “He’ll turn over in his grave”

In Belgium as well, it has not gone unnoticed that the Netherlands national team, after a penalty shootout, lost to Morocco in the round of sixteen of the World Cup in North America. Oranje is receiving harsh criticism in the country of Flemish fries about the way they played against the Atlas Lions.

''The Netherlands presented themselves against Morocco as a little team. Oranje has fallen short in a very painful way. Painful for Koeman and for all Dutch football'', writes former PSV player Marc Degryse in Het Laatste Nieuws.

The Belgian analyst can’t understand why national coach Ronald Koeman, against Morocco, decided to play defensively just like he did against Japan. I find it bizarre that Koeman made the same mistake as in the first group match of Oranje against Japan. Back then, he made the opponent way too big. After that, against Sweden and Tunisia he did choose the Dutch style. Now Koeman let the Netherlands play like a small team. “Johan Cruyff will be turning in his grave,” the former PSV player continues.

Degryse therefore also expects that Koeman will no longer be on the touchline after the World Cup as head coach of Oranje and that Virgil van Dijk can also expect significant criticism from the former footballer. ''There can be no other way than that he will be sacrificed. In my view, Virgil van Dijk went down with Koeman. Van Dijk’s great quality is heading, but he did let Issa Diop score the equaliser with his head in minute 91. He also didn’t want to take a penalty. Then you evade your responsibility'', the Belgian is blunt in his assessment.

Then Degryse continues and PSV coach Peter Bosz is mentioned. ''No, this elimination is simply a loss of face for Van Dijk, Koeman and for Dutch football as a whole. They will regret it that they didn’t ask Peter Bosz earlier. He is a coach who relies on his own strength'', the former PSV player says.

Especially the way PSV play under Bosz and also last season managed, on a number of occasions, to impress in the Champions League, earning a great deal of praise from the Belgian analyst. ''How he let PSV play in recent years, in the style of Bayern, Barcelona and PSG, that was a pleasure to watch. Bosz wants to score more goals than the opponent. That fits perfectly with the national team. Degryse concludes: Bosz had been the great savior, but he has already extended his contract at PSV,''.
