Praise for PSV talent: “He did well.”

1 min read

The 2025/2026 season is over for PSV after last Sunday’s 5-1 victory over FC Twente. Peter Bosz’s side became the earliest Eredivisie champions ever this season and, for the third season in a row, reached at least 100 league goals.

Partly because the league title had been in hand for some time, Peter Bosz experimented in recent weeks with 18-year-old Belgian Noah Fernandez in midfield. Last Sunday, Fernandez scored his first goal for PSV’s first team.

Bosz sees that the Belgian is going through an excellent development, but is not yet ready to say whether it is good enough for a future starting spot in PSV’s midfield. ''For next season, I don’t know, because I have no idea what the squad will look like. In the past two matches, he was a starter. He has been a squad player with us for quite a while—he’s regularly come on as a substitute—and now he’s started two games. He’s done well'', Bosz says in an interview with De Telegraaf.

Still, the youth coach makes a note about the match in which the Belgian played against the Tukkers, a match in which Bosz was satisfied with the first half and less so with the second half. ''That’s not a problem at all, because he’s still a very young guy who has a lot to learn. And I think this has been a very good learning moment for him,'' said the coach.

After that, Bosz goes deeper into where the differences lay between the Fernandez of the first and second halves. ''In the first half he was just swimming, he arrived everywhere too late, he didn’t pick up any second balls. The second half was completely different. Then he picked up all the second balls and was right on top of them. Then you see that it also carries over into ball possession. That he then becomes freer there too, gets more trust'', the coach continues.

Bosz also sees a clear difference between Fernandez and his teammates Isaac Babadi and Tygo Land, who are both loaned out by PSV. ''If they are good enough then they will make it. It depends on the player. I'm not going to do it for him. He has to run, he has to get better, he has to work hard. We see the willingness to work hard, we see his talent, and then a young guy like that has to be given the chance and take it themselves'', concludes the coach.

I get the praise, but the "i dont know for next season" part is fair. If he wants a future spot, he has to keep showing that second-half control, not just flashes. 👀

That midfield switch with Noah Fernandez was needed. Love the way Bosz broke down the first half vs second half, that swim-vibe to win-second-balls turnaround is real 🔥
