1 min readOn 14 May 2025, in the 33rd matchday of the Eredivisie, PSV regained first place after a 4-1 victory over Heracles Almelo and a 2-2 draw from Ajax in the absolute closing stages away at FC Groningen. Thanks in part to help from Groningen, PSV was back on pole position to win the league title.
Important man for FC Groningen on the side was defender Thijmen Blokzijl. Thanks to a punt at the center-back in the 99th minute, Ajax squandered the top spot and a real celebration erupted in both the Philips Stadion and the Euroborg.

Blokzijl scoring that punt in stoppage time is such a specific kind of madness. I love it, but also... Ajax really needed more control after grabbing momentum late. 💀
"Totale gekkenhuis in het stadion" is the only correct description. That Philips Stadion reaction mustve been mental, 2-2 in the absolute slotfase is legit football poetry.

PSV winning 4-1 vs Heracles was nice, but that Ajax slip is what made it feel unfairly perfect. 👀 Without that timing, poleposition wouldve been so different.
The way the Ajax-FC Groningen game swung at the end was insane. tbh it felt like the whole league held its breath, then boom, total gekkenhuis in the stadium.
If Groningen helped out like that, you just know PSV fans were already counting the title. Blokzijl turning into a last-second villain for Ajax is peak Eredivisie drama.
That 99th minute punter by Blokzijl was pure chaos 😂 I still cant believe Ajax threw the lead like that.
