Transfer an option | “Now we have to look at what is best for me”
1 min readAfter the relegation of Excelsior in the 2023/2024 season, winger Couhaib Driouech left for PSV. The quicker winger has, over two seasons, failed to earn a regular starting spot at PSV, partly due to the heavy competition on the wings.
Nevertheless, Driouech thinks that within two years he has become a better footballer at PSV. ''I think I have become a very good player and you can see that in training and in moments during matches. I came here to become a better player and I think I am at that point now,'' the left winger tells Voetbal International.
Just like last season, this season Driouech has to rely above all on substitute appearances, and for him a major role was reserved in the Champions League matches against Napoli (6-2) and Liverpool (1-4). Against the Italians, Driouech scored the 6-2 after a world-class attack, and at Anfield the winger, as a substitute for Ivan Perisic, delivered two goals that ensured a historic PSV victory in Merseyside.
For Driouech as well, these evenings were special. ''I have been able to experience many beautiful things, play against beautiful teams, and beat crazy teams. I’ve had special nights, becoming champion twice. Now we have to look at what is best for me,'' continues the winger.
Also due to the fact that Driouech, because of fierce competition, has not managed to secure a permanent starting spot, a transfer is certainly not out of the question. ''I want to play anyway. If it’s here, then it’s here. If not, I have to keep looking. I’ve reached the point where I know that I can do it and I really want to show it,'' said the attacker.
Driouech has absolutely no fear of a new adventure. ''If that isn't here, it should be somewhere else, but I wouldn't be afraid to take on a new challenge either. Yes. I just want to be constant, to show what I can do. Every week and preferably at the highest level. I would like to show it to the world,'' concludes the 24-year-old winger.

Jammer, maar ook gevaarlijk dat we hem straks kwijt raken terwijl hij in de CL echt heeft bewezen waarde te hebben. 🔥👀 Als hij bij een andere club week in week uit speelt, dan is hij volgend jaar makkelijk weer een naam die je niet wilt tegenkomen.
If PSV cannot offer him regular starts, his quote about looking for what is best for him makes sense. That said, PSV also needs winger competition, so maybe the real solution is tailored minutes, not a full exit.
"Ik wil sowieso gaan spelen" yeah but that is exactly the problem. PSV cant just bench better options, and Driouech needs a clear role. Either he takes a step up in training and gets minutes, or he gets bought by a club that will use him weekly. 🚀
Imo this is a classic PSV situation: quality winger, but competition is too strong and the plan uses him as a super-sub. If he wants constant football, loan or permanent move should be on the table, no cap. 🤡
🔥 Champions League avonden waren echt peak, Napoli wereldaanval en op Anfield twee goals als invaller, daar zit kwaliteit. Maar league consistency ontbreekt nog, dus ik twijfel of hij hier gaat doorbreken dit seizoen.
"Ik wil sowieso gaan spelen" ... ja maar PSV wil ook winnen met de beste 11. Als hij dan weer niet start, dan moet je echt keuzes maken. Misschien is een verhuur of verkoop de best mogelijke deal, anders blijft het frustratie.
Couhaib is niet mid, maar hij is wel te vaak net niet op dat PSV-niveau voor een basisplek. Geef hem 8-10 wedstrijden aaneen en dan praat je anders. Anders moet je gewoon eerlijk zijn en doorpakken met een transfer.
Voor mij is dit het hele probleem op de vleugels: talent genoeg, maar de concurrentie is moordend en de minuten zijn schaars. Als hij dit seizoen weer vooral invallen krijgt, dan is een transfer imo geen verrassing. Benieuwd wie hem zou vervangen, want die snelheid achterin de rug is wel priceless.

Couhaib zegt "Nu moeten we kijken wat het beste is voor mij" en ik snap hem, want je wil elke week op hoog niveau spelen. Maar als hij vertrekt, wie haalt die snelheid en clutch goals van de bank weg? 🔥
Tbh dit klinkt als een speler die zichzelf klaar vindt, maar elke keer weer net achter de concurrentie eindigt. Als hij een transfer wil moet PSV ook eerlijk zijn over minuten, want Europa is z'n moment en in de competitie verdwijnt hij te vaak.
I snap dat hij wil spelen, maar tbh twee jaar en geen vaste basisplek is wel pijnlijk. Wel banger momenten gehad tegen Napoli en Liverpool, vooral die invaller-goals.
Tbh vind ik het wel logisch dat Couhaib zegt dat hij constant wil spelen. Als je echt kan, maar het blijft steeds invalbasis, dan ga je toch kijken naar opties.
