FC Twente watcher adamant about PSV’s interest in defenders: “Officially, they haven’t contacted us yet”

1 min read

For PSV, next Sunday at their home Philips Stadium is the final league match of the 2025/2026 season on the agenda. Peter Bosz's side will then play against number 3 FC Twente, and this match is of crucial importance for the Tukkers in the battle for a place in the Champions League preliminary round.

It is said that PSV has been interested for some time in two defenders from John van den Brom's team. Ruud Nijstad and Mats Rots are said to be being tracked by PSV in order to make the switch to Eindhoven next summer.

Due to the injury of captain Jerdy Schouten, it is clear that PSV will go after a new centre-back on the transfer market next summer and, because of the uncertainty over whether left-back Anass Salah-Eddine will stay or not, Rots could also be an option for PSV. The latter was previously mentioned by Eindhovens Dagblad as an option for the left flank.

''Officially they haven't reported in yet, but you can bet your life that PSV is interested in Nijstad and Rots. They're high on the list, which makes Sunday's match even more special'', FC Twente watcher Leon ten Voorde tells in the AD Voetbalpodcast about PSV's interest in Nijstad and Rots.

Nevertheless, some foreign clubs are also being linked to the two defenders, says Ten Voorde. ''PSV would preferably bring in the biggest Dutch talents. But I wonder whether they can afford these guys. They will first have to sell some players themselves, because these players will generate a lot for FC Twente, if they leave,'' the journalist said.

Solid take tbh, but PSV need more threat from the wings. Defensive work is cool, yet when Dumfries isnt turning, we get too predictable. 🤡

I thought the quote about being patient in possession was spot on. Tonight it felt like PSV controlled the tempo without forcing it, and that is a big thing for a title run. Easy 1-0 vibes, keep it tight. ❤️

"The build-up looks calmer than last season" is true, but we still lose the ball too easily in the final third. Have we got a plan B when the first combination gets shut down? 2-3 touches would be smarter. 🔥

"We just needed one moment" ... bruh, that is literally PSV most weeks. If the coach expects single-chance football, opponents will happily sit and wait. 💀

ngl, if Til is on the right, i want more direct runs in behind instead of always cutting back. That will give us goals, not just possession. 👀

I like the idea of letting the fullbacks overlap, but Tbh the timing needs to be perfect. When they go at the same time as the winger, the space behind becomes free. 🤦‍♀️

"PSV inside" has been great for the ball, but defensively we still look shaky when the midfield gets bypassed. Joey Veerman needs to be braver with the first pass.

Zou Luuk de Jong echt als 9 starten of gaat he weer vaker het spel vastzetten? Jongens, im still not convinced on that setup. 🔥

Teze and Tillman need to be more brave on the turn. Too many times they receive facing backwards and then it kills the momentum. If the article is right about the game plan, the final third still looks mid. 🙄

If this is about PSV pressing higher, i think its risky without a proper escape plan. Xavi Simons better track back or it turns into easy counters.

Ngl, the way they talk about the press is promising, but i want to see it for 90 minutes, not 30. With our schedule, you cant go peak-intensity every game without rotation. 🔥

If PSV really played that build-up from deep with zero risk passes, im all for it. But if they lose the midfield duel again, thats where it gets ugly fast. 👀

If PSV really went for that high press again, it explains the intensity. But if the midfield steps out too early, we gonna get cooked by quick switches. 👀
