PSV is generally quite strong in home matches against the Tukkers. Of the 58 matches played, the team from Enschede managed to take all three points back to Enschede only four times.
The last time FC Twente managed to secure three points at the Philips Stadium dates back to the 2011/2012 season. On March 4, 2012, a week after the top-of-the-table clash against Feyenoord that they won 3-2, PSV played another important match in the fight for the national title.
For Fred Rutten’s squad, it was a game to quickly forget. At halftime, PSV were already trailing 0-4 against the setup of the English coach Steve McClaren, via goals from Ola John, Willem Janssen, Peter Wisgerhof and Luuk de Jong.
Five minutes after the break, Twente had to continue with ten men after a red card for defender Douglas. In the 55th minute, Ola Toivonen scored the equalizing goal for PSV, but despite that, it was Leroy Fer who made it 1-5 for the Tukkers in the 74th minute and thereby definitively put the match beyond doubt.
In the 82nd minute Toivonen made it 2-5 and yet it was FC Twente, playing with one man less, that managed to produce the 2-6. In the 87th minute Willem Janssen scored his second goal of the match and thereby set the final score at 2-6.

Die quote-less match staat me nog bij: Toivonen 55e aansluiting, maar Fer maakte het meteen kapot met 1-5. Als PSV dit seizoen net zo rommelig is na goals tegen, dan gaat FC Twente ons straffen.
0-4 bij rust, rood voor Douglas, en dan toch 2-6... dat is echt pure chaos 💀. Als Rutten toen al wist dat het mis zou gaan, dan was het wel in dat eerste half uur.
2-6 met Willem Janssen z'n tweede... brutaal. Hoop dat PSV aanstaande zondag weer dat tempo haalt, want als Twente mag voetballen dan wordt het spannend.
Tbh vind ik het feit dat Twente maar 4 keer vol profiteerde in 58 thuisduels best veelzeggend. Maar die ene wedstrijd in 2011/2012 laat zien dat als we vroeg klappen krijgen, het meteen ontspoort. Hopelijk pakken we zondag de controle en houden we het simpel.
tbh ik zou nu niet te hard leunen op nostalgie. Twente is tegenwoordig tactisch veel slimmer en PSV maakt ook fouten die je in Enschede vaak niet straft... maar thuis tegen ze blijft wel lastig voor Twente 🔥
iemand anders die die naam Ola John nog steeds hoort als PSV lui begint? 0-4 na de rust... en dan toch nog 2-6. Tegen Twente moeten we meteen duels winnen, anders wordt het snel pijnlijk.
0-4 bij rust en dan zelfs met 10 man nog doorpakken, dat is echt peak PSV. Die rode kaart voor Douglas lijkt me meer een versneller dan een rem.
4 maart 2012... dat is echt zo'n PSV-avond die je wil wissen maar die blijft hangen. 0-4 bij rust zegt alles, Twente kwam toen echt nooit meer terug.
Dat 0-4 bij rust in 2012 is echt een nachtmerrie. Twente deed het toen ijzersterk, en PSV kon daarna nog wel scoren met Toivonen maar het gat bleef gewoon te groot. Feels like we must not start like that again.
