Analyst expects a major surprise in World Cup squad

Analyst Robert Maaskant is therefore lyrical about the season of Guus Til, who, according to him, deserves a place in the squad for the global finals. Maaskant is asked by Sportnieuws.nl who the biggest surprise in the World Cup squad for Oranje will be. “That will be Til. A versatile midfielder who can score a goal and works hard. It would be a wonderful reward for everything he’s done in recent years,” Maaskant doesn’t beat around the bush.
Til still has a little time, but he still can't book a holiday. On May 27, Ronald Koeman will be announcing his World Cup squad. A starting spot in the United States, Mexico and Canada does not seem to be immediately in the cards, but that Til could play a role in the Netherlands national team is definitely true.
The 28-year-old Til was this season one of the absolute standouts for champion PSV. After the injuries to Ricardo Pepi, Myron Boadu, and Alassane Pléa, the attacking midfielder had to step in as a makeshift striker, and he did so properly. In total, Til this season notched sixteen goals and eight assists, making him one of PSV's most productive players. The third consecutive national title is therefore also thanks to Guus Til.

Til back in the picture gaat. idk waarom iemand nog sceptisch is, hij heeft het seizoen echt gedragen. Als Koeman slim is zet hij Til als impact vanaf de bank of als vervanger van een spits, waar hij altijd nog kan doorgroeien. 💯
The part about no starting spot yet is fair, but i dont see why they wouldnt use him. When Pepi and Boadu were out, Til kept PSV lethal, and Koeman should use that mentality in the group stage 🤡
Goal contributions from that role is wild. If he gets even 15-20 minutes as an option up front, it could be a cheat code vs tired legs 💯⚽
"Prachtige beloning" is het juiste woord, maar ik vind het juist wrang dat zijn naam pas laat opduikt bij Oranje. Op PSV was hij gewoon top als Pepi, Boadu en Pléa uitvielen. Als hij geen oproep krijgt dan is dat echt onbegrijpelijk.
"Dat gaat Til worden." tbh snap ik Maaskant wel, hij was piek na de blessures bij PSV. Toch denk ik: bij Oranje moet je ook keepen op moment, niet alleen goals. Als Til dat tempo haalt dan is het wél een banger 🔥⚽

I agree Til deserves the call, but tbh i think Oranje still needs pace and pure balance in midfield. Til can do both though, especially with his work rate and goal threat 👀
Maaskant zegt Til. Logisch ook, veelzijdig en doet verdedigend werk. Alleen ik twijfel of Koeman hem gaat durven starten i.p.v. een vaste naam. Maar als hij rol in de omschakeling krijgt, kan het echt knallen. 👀
If Maaskant is saying Til is the surprise, i kinda believe it. His numbers this season are ridiculous, 16 goals and 8 assists as a "opportunity striker" is peak versatility 🔥
Til veelzijdig noemen is wel het minste. Die man kan zich goed in de halfspaces aanbieden, en als er druk komt werkt hij ook zonder bal. Maar ik twijfel of Oranje genoeg defensieve discipline heeft met hem in de basis, zeker tegen fysiek sterke ploegen.
Guus Til als WK-verrassing... eerlijk is eerlijk, hij heeft dit seizoen echt alles gedaan. Zestiende goals en acht assists als "gelegenheidssplits" is geen toeval. Als Koeman hem buiten laat dan is dat echt zonde.
Als Til echt de "grote verrassing" wordt, dan moet je eerlijk zijn: die verdient het gewoon. Die 16 goals en 8 assists als gelegenheidsspits is geen toeval. 🔥
