PSV chiefs share expectations for Netherlands–Morocco
1 min readPSV legends Willy and René van de Kerkhof also know all too well that Oranje will be in action on Tuesday night against Morocco for a place in the round of 16 at the World Cup in North America. The brothers have mixed expectations ahead of the match between the Netherlands national team and the Atlas Lions.
René thinks that the Netherlands will come up short. ''Morocco simply has a top team. The intensity of those guys, a few PSG players and Saibari... I'm afraid we won't make it. I think it will come down to penalties and that we'll be eliminated then'', says the former international in the Willy and René PSV Podcast of Omroep Brabant.
Willy, on the other hand, does expect a good outcome. ''It’s going to be a fantastic match. One of the top matches of this tournament. I think we’re going to push it over the line,'' said Willy.
In addition, Willy thinks that the Netherlands has more scoring power than Morocco, to which René responds. “I hope I’m wrong, but I’m not reassured,” the man from Helmond says.
In addition, both brothers believe that national team coach Ronald Koeman should choose to put Donyell Malen on the bench in favor of Crysencio Summerville. ''A shame for Malen. He isn’t doing badly, really, but he’s just unlucky. Chances he just doesn’t get. And Memphis should just be given vacation and not selected again. You could just as well start Weghorst,'' Willy concludes.

Ik snap de Malen/Summerville discussie niet helemaal. Malen is niet ineens "pech" in één interview, maar als Memphis inderdaad weer start-idee is... dan ben je gewoon kwetsbaar. Verdedigend kan Marokko je straffen, dus kies slim, niet emotioneel.
Ik snap Willy helemaal, dit moet een topwedstrijd worden. Tegen Marokko wil je juist lef en snelheid, anders word je kapot gelopen. Ga ervoor Oranje, 90 minuten druk zetten 💯🔥
''Marokko heeft gewoon een topploeg'' ja bruh, dat voel je ook wel. Als Nederland slap begint, dan is het echt game over. Penalty's winnen is roulette, dus speel gewoon slim.
Tbh die René zegt wel echt iets hoor... Marokko is intens en als het richting penalties gaat, is alles mogelijk. Maar Koeman moet die balans goed pakken, anders gaat PSV-ervaring juist pijn doen.
Weghorst erin i.p.v. Memphis, ok. Maar als je écht meer scorend vermogen wilt, dan moet je ook je kansen creëren, niet alleen wissels roepen. Marokko krijgt anders sowieso momenten.
Summerville lijkt me logisch als je meer dreiging wilt in de omschakeling. Alleen als Koeman Malen laat staan voor "impact" in de slotfase, dan kan het ook nog. Niet te vroeg alles omgooien.
Malen op de bank... begrijp het wel, maar "vakantie geven" voor Memphis is wel hard lol. Ik denk dat Koeman vooral moet kijken naar balans, want Nederland mist anders tempo tegen die tegenaanvallen.
René die het over penalty's heeft klopt misschien wel. Marokko zit er altijd op, vooral met die intensiteit. Maar tbh i hoop dat Oranje juist vroeg scoort.
