Football fans are annoyed by Van der Vaart after a remark about former PSV player: “Not worth taking seriously”

During the World Cup, former Oranje player Rafael van der Vaart is an analyst for NOS and, in particular, provides the former midfielder with analyses of the Netherlands national team’s matches. Last Thursday, Van der Vaart was also an analyst ahead of the match Curaçao - Ivory Coast (0-2).

In Ivory Coast, former PSV player Ibrahim Sangaré is part of the squad and against Dick Advocaat's team the midfielder provided an assist ahead of the second Ivorian goal. Van der Vaart claimed before the match, however, that Sangaré, who is now active for Nottingham Forest in England, mainly has to make do with a reserve role, and that is therefore not entirely the case.

This claim causes a lot of outrage on the social media platform X among Dutch football fans. A selection of the reactions:

Van der Vaart zegt "reserverol" over Sangaré maar hij ligt er wél goed in bij Ivoorkust. Tbh als je een speler benoemt, kijk dan even naar wat ie echt doet. Dit soort uitspraken voelt echt niet serieus. 🔥
