1 min readIvan Perisic gears up after a defeat against England for the second match at the 2026 World Cup. Croatia plays in the night from Tuesday to Wednesday against Panama and hopes to secure their first three points of the World Cup.
In the match against The Three Lions (4-2), the PSV player was still important for the Croats by providing an assist to Petar Musa just before halftime, which meant both teams went into the break level at 2-2. In the end, the English pulled away after halftime through Jude Bellingham and Marcus Rashford.
Despite the defeat of the Croats, there was plenty of praise for Perisic’s performance afterward. The 37-year-old Croat is already playing his fourth World Cup, and at the editorial office of VoetbalPrimeur they wonder what the PSV player would be worth if he were 21 years old now.
In the podcast Done Deal it is discussed that Liverpool FC would have made an offer of 100 million euros for Yan Diomande, after which Perisic’s performance at the World Cup is brought up. "Wat zou hij nu waard zijn als hij nu 21 was geweest?" dat is precies het soort vraag dat je krijgt als iemand alleen maar over statistieken praat. Perisic is niet zomaar "duurkoop" bij een leeftijd, zijn waarde zit in timing, passing en leiderschap, en dat zie je in dat 2-2 moment.
Na Engeland (4-2) alsnog lof... prima, maar ik vraag me af of hij met dit tempo het team kan blijven dragen. Tegen Panama moet Kroatië vooral controle pakken, en Perisic is dan top als hij de bal kan vasthouden en timing vindt. Anders wordt het weer bollen op leeftijd, tbh.
"Wat zou hij nu waard zijn als hij nu 21 was geweest?" eerlijk, dat is ook precies waarom hij zo'n vreemde waarde blijft houden. Bij PSV kun je zien dat hij nog altijd routine en intensiteit brengt, maar je moet hem ook niet overvragen in de laatste fase van het toernooi.
Tbh die vergelijking gaat nergens over. Diomande is jong en ontwikkelbaar, Perisic is 37 en draait op ervaring. Maar goed, als je puur naar niveau op dit WK kijkt dan is hij nog altijd top, lol.
Perisic is 37 en speelt nog steeds beslissend. Die assist op Musa net voor rust was echt "doet ie weer" niveau. Als je ziet hoe Kroatië hem blijft gebruiken, snap ik wel die vraag wat hij op 21 zou waard zijn.
Perisic is echt zo'n voorbeeld van ervaring die nog steeds impact maakt. Die assist voor Musa voor rust tegen Engeland was meteen raak, 100 miljoen voor Diomande of niet, Perisic blijft gewoon leveren 👀
