Transfer target reveals interest in PSV: “But I’ll stay”

1 min read

In recent weeks, defender Ruud Nijstad, just like Mats Rots, was repeatedly linked with a transfer to PSV. Despite all the rumors, Nijstad decided to stay loyal to the men from Twente and extend his contract until mid-2029, while Rots left for the record fee of sixteen million euros to TSG Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga.

Besides PSV, among others Eintracht Frankfurt was also interested in the central defender of FC Twente, who had a good season and was also in the sights of Chelsea and FC Barcelona. Nevertheless, Nijstad himself decided to extend his contract in Enschede.

Opposite 1Twente Enschede, the defender acknowledges that PSV had concrete interest in him. ''PSV was concrete and Frankfurt was also concrete, but I’m staying. I’m allowed to be here for another year. You’re not rid of me yet. I did find it a difficult choice, because you don’t know what the right one is. But I think I wrote down all the pros and cons,'' Nijstad says to the television broadcaster.

Nijstad also says he believes he has made the right choice to sign on. ''I've spoken with a lot of people and I'm convinced that I've made a good choice. I especially spoke with my parents and with teammates who previously once made that kind of step'', the defender explains.

Nevertheless, it was not easy for the young man to simply choose to stay longer at the Grolsch Veste. ''Some people say yes, some people say no, so I think I’ve mainly gone with my instincts. My instincts told me I wasn’t ready here yet. Twente is definitely my club,'' concludes Nijstad.

One thing i noticed: when Xavi Simons drops to receive, the right channel actually opens. If that runs through the #10 more, Luuk de Jong (or whoever starts up top) gets service in better positions. That said, defensively we still look a bit open if Bruma is caught too far forward. 🚀

Said it before and i'll say it again, our buildup still looks a bit forced. When (from the article) they mention the need for "more control", thats exactly what we miss when the press comes quick 👀

"PSV can control transitions" is nice, but we keep gifting those counter moments when the fullbacks step too high. tbh i want a tighter midfield pivot, not just vibes. 🔥

If this is another "we just need intensity" talk, im not buying it. Against teams that sit deep, PSV need quicker combinations in the half-spaces, otherwise it turns into crossing practice. 👀

If PSV play with a higher line again, we are begging for space behind the back four. tbh i hope the midfield sits in tighter and makes it easy for the CBs to step up 🔥
