ESPN analysts clear about Ronald Koeman
1 min readLast week it became clear that Joey Veerman will definitely not go with the Oranje squad to the World Cup, since the PSV midfielder, despite a strong season, is not among the 55 players from which national team coach Ronald Koeman has to put together a squad of 26. After the match PSV - FC Twente (5-1), Veerman himself told ESPN cameras that Koeman no longer needs to call him.
ESPN analyst Marciano Vink thinks that Veerman speaks primarily from his gut feeling and, in doing so, also doesn't realize what possible consequences are connected to it. ''He just puts it the way it feels to him. Many would think that he shouldn't say certain things, because if Koeman stays, will you then perhaps not be called up anymore. But he really is done with it. And one thing you can say about Veerman: he always says it like it is'', Vink says in De Eretribune on ESPN.
Vink also has a hunch about how the relationship between Koeman and Veerman got so out of hand. ''He probably had a phone call with Koeman, and I think that was pretty okay and that some things were explained. But then the first question at the press conference immediately goes back to Veerman. That can cause irritation for Koeman'', the analyst continues.
In addition, the former footballer believes that the relationship between the national team coach and the current PSV player can no longer be repaired. ''I think they’re just done with each other. Koeman just doesn’t want to call him up. And there should be no more questions about it even at press conferences. It’s just a closed book,'' thinks Vink.

Despite the fact that Veerman has thanked the Netherlands national team for as long as Ronald Koeman is the national coach, Vink is charmed by the qualities the Volendam native has. ''This season he has proven at Champions League level that he can simply make the difference. That he wouldn't be able to keep up the tempo—that's a bit outdated,'' said the former footballer.

Closed book for PSV means we should enjoy him more in the Dutch league and Europe 🔥❤️. But damn, this drama is not doing either side any favours. Hope we see the same difference-maker energy next round.
The "tempo can't keep up" take is honestly outdated. Veerman's on Champions League level this year, especially with PSV controlling matches. If the only reason is a feeling-based conversation, that's too small for a player like him.
Vink zegt dat Veerman vooral uit gevoel praat, and honestly he does. But the bigger issue is Koeman constantly getting asked about him, that is management 101 and it kills the vibe fast. Still, refusing to call him up feels harsh when he's been so good this season.
Koeman might already had his plan, but Joey basically confirmed it publicly. I bet that only makes it worse for any future call-ups.
Relatie is dus gewoon stuk, gesloten boek inderdaad.
ngl i snap Koeman's frustration, but the way Veerman handled it is peak. If he's that "open book" then fine, but dont act surprised when it cuts both ways. PSV will still be the place he performs.
