FC Twente defender tipped to PSV: “He plays so incredibly easily”

1 min read

PSV wrapped up the 2025/2026 season superbly with a convincing 5-1 victory over FC Twente. As a result, Peter Bosz's team also played a major role in the race for third place, since NEC, thanks to a 2-1 win against Go Ahead Eagles, is still heading to the Champions League qualifying round.

Despite the big defeat of John van den Brom's team at the Philips Stadium, a player from the Tukkers can count on the many compliments from ESPN analysts Kenneth Perez and Arnold Bruggink. Both gentlemen are very positive about left-back Mats Rots, who in recent weeks has been explicitly linked with a move to PSV.

According to Perez, the left-back has a high football IQ since the defender tried to prevent the goal with his body when Ryan Flamingo made it 1-0. ''What you could have done, if you didn't have such a high IQ, is to stick out your hand to stop him. That's a very normal reaction'', says the Danish analyst in the program Dit Was Het Weekend on ESPN.

Arnold Bruggink thinks slightly differently about Rots. ''Mats is more of a dreamer. He plays football so incredibly easily. And with a power, which you need in this day and age. He has that, in particular, more than anyone else. That really makes him special'', says Bruggink.

Therefore, the former footballer thinks that a step to PSV could cause Rots to improve himself in a number of respects. ''His attacking power is so enormously strong that you take the defending as well. Only I fear that if he makes the step to a bigger club abroad and he snoozes once, then you're next. That's something in his game. If you look at PSV, I expect that Salah-Eddine won't stay and that Dest will also leave. Peter Bosz wants footballing full-backs. They also paid sixteen million for Ruben van Bommel. So why would PSV not pay a lot for Rots as well? He has so much potential'', said Bruggink.
