After pulling Joey Veerman apart, Van der Vaart adds another layer: “Doesn’t succeed abroad.”

In turn, Joey Veerman also receives a lot of criticism, and on Sunday evening Rafael van der Vaart added an extra layer by starting to talk about Veerman’s qualities. Van der Vaart, you see, doesn’t think Joey Veerman is going to succeed abroad.
"I am mega a fan of him, only I think that is what he is showing right now", Van der Vaart begins at Studio Voetbal. "No matter which league he goes to: I don't think he would succeed there. Then just stay in the Netherlands. PSV is a top club, so then you would be better off staying here than at Bournemouth or wherever."
"I think he can succeed abroad if they know what they’re getting. He is the best passer in the Netherlands", Bosz continues. "You really need a top club that wants to build a team around him, and that doesn’t happen at a top club", Van der Vaart continues his analysis of Veerman.
Scout-analyst Theo Janssen takes a different approach. "Joey is a very good player. If he joins a club that also has a lot of the ball, plenty of runners, and penetrating wingers, he is always of value. I would prefer to keep him in the Netherlands, because I enjoy him. I just understand that he wants to go abroad one more time."
Veerman said Sunday afternoon that there is now something going on around his person, but nothing concrete yet. For Peter Bosz, it now seems to be pretty much a given that Veerman will be leaving this summer. "If you still want to earn money, you have to go. But when you look at the quality, I think: what is then better than PSV?", Van der Vaart said about the midfielder from Volendam.

"Blijf dan maar in Nederland" hoor je toch te vaak bij succesverhalen. Buitenlandse clubs kopen echt niet alleen techniek hoor, ze kopen vooral ritme en systeem. Als ze Joey halen en hem als regisseur gebruiken, is hij goated. 🔥
"Slaagt niet in het buitenland" klinkt lekker vanaf de bank, maar PSV is juist zo'n leeromgeving waar je beter wordt. En als Van der Vaart zegt dat hij alleen in Nederland kan scoren, dan zou ik willen zien welke club dat durft te plannen. tbh, Bosz op dit punt vind ik overtuigender. 🔥
Van der Vaart roept "Bournemouth of waar dan ook", maar dat is ook precies waarom PSV-voeding zo belangrijk is. Als PSV straks weer een team heeft dat hem ruimte geeft om te draaien en door te spelen, dan kan hij elders echt het verschil maken. Toch snap ik Bosz wel: hij mist een topclub die om hem heen bouwt.
tbh die van der vaart zegt vooral dingen die iedereen al weet, maar "beter in NL" klinkt wel als bangmaker. Joey is gewoon een top passer, als ze hem goed gebruiken gaat het ook buiten NL werken. Bosz heeft imo meer gelijk.
Eens. Theo Janssen zegt eigenlijk hetzelfde: bij balbezit en met lopende spelers is Veerman waardevol. Maar als ze hem buiten de bal niet goed vinden, dan krijg je chaos en dan roepen mensen "zie je wel".
Bosz heeft imo het meest realistische punt: je hebt een topclub nodig die hem wil gebruiken als passer. Ik denk dat het niet alleen zijn kwaliteiten zijn, maar ook de intensiteit en positie-keuzes in het buitenland. Als ze hem in een systeem zetten dat klopt, kan het echt.
Idk, ik snap de twijfel wel maar "de beste passer in Nederland" is toch geen argument om hem in te leveren bij Bournemouth. Als de ploeg rond hem niet gebouwd wordt, dan faalt iedereen. PSV moet dit seizoen gewoon laten zien hoe hij waarde krijgt.
Fair dat Van der Vaart het zo stellig zegt, maar "Blijf dan maar in Nederland" is echt veel te kort door de bocht. Als Bosz gelijk krijgt, dan is Veerman juist een speler die buitenland wel kan dragen, vooral als ze hem tussen linies durven te gebruiken. ⚽👀
