Derogatory Van der Vaart lashes out at PSV player: 'He gets laughed at by players like Frenkie and Reijnders'
1 min readRafael van der Vaart is right on the spot on Sunday evening at Studio Voetbal. The analyst effectively takes aim at multiple PSV players, including Guus Til.
Van der Vaart also hit hard at Joey Veerman on Sunday evening. Guus Til also appears to be next in line with Van der Vaart. Ronald Koeman is going to announce his squad for the World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada on 27 May, but Til should not be part of it, the analyst believes.
There is division at the table at Studio Voetbal about whether he should be called up for the World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada. Especially with Van der Vaart.
In the very last episode of the well-known Sunday evening program, the possible selection of Guus Til came up. Van der Vaart thinks that Til does not fit in with the current midfield of Oranje: Tijjani Reijnders (Manchester City), Frenkie de Jong (Barcelona) and Ryan Gravenberch (Liverpool).

'Don’t overstate that he has to go to the World Cup. He’s perfectly happy to sit on the couch; that’s different from Veerman. He, as it were, would rather be at the fair in Volendam. But the current starting line-up—those guys are absolutely top level. Then Til or Veerman gets mocked,' Van der Vaart says dismissively about Til.
Theo Janssen does not agree with that and believes that Til, with his own way of playing, provides the necessary variation. 'He has fantastic timing. He’s always in the right place; we don’t have that kind of player in Oranje. As number ten, you need someone who is always on the move. You can make very good use of that.'
'When you look at Frenkie, Reijnders and Gravenberch. They look a bit like each other and they’re not complementary to one another,' Janssen continued. 'Til is a completely different player. You can make very good use of him at the World Cup.' Til himself waits patiently and goes 'lie down by the pool' in anticipation of a possible call from the national coach.

Goal!! 3 points is 3 points, but defensively we were hanging at times. 👏 Need a cleaner second phase after the first press.
Tbh i liked how they mentioned the midfield rotation, it finally gives the defense an outlet. Still, we cant lose the ball in front of the centerbacks, thats where the counters start. would love to see more control in the 70th minute. 🙄
"The next step is consistency" sounds nice, but consistency is mostly defensive details. Viergever-like positioning (well, in spirit) is missing sometimes, especially after the ball is lost. I want smarter recovery runs, not just more intensity. 💀
Eens. When De Jong drops into that half-space, suddenly the whole build-up feels faster. Need that chemistry from the start, not only after PSV go down. 👏⚽
Tbh PSV moeten in dit soort wedstrijden gewoon rustiger met de bal. Als die back line te hoog staat, dan krijgen we meteen counter-slap. 👀
I like the way they press high, but tbh the distances between the winger and the fullback looked too big at times. If the article is hinting at more attacking emphasis, I hope they also talk about protecting the back line. Otherwise it turns into free counterattacks.
On paper the setup is great, but im not convinced the winger stays wide enough. Against teams that press, this could get ugly. Still, that final ball from the article has me hopeful. 🔥
The way the article frames the wing play, i think its the right idea. But we need more direct runs into the box, not endless cutbacks. If the wingers dont commit defenders, Gakpo-like movement has no service. 👀
Bruno Fernandes? no, wait, thats not PSV lol. But if the article is about PSV's buildup, i just want us to play faster through the half-spaces. When we hesitate, opponents sit deep and it becomes cross and hope... 🤡
If PSV are really going with this high press again, i just hope they dont get exposed behind the fullbacks. Got to keep the midfield compact, otherwise it will be long balls all night. 🔥
the quote about "control in midfield" is nice, but i saw us slow down too much after winning the ball. De Jong's positioning was good though, fr.
If PSV plays like this with that intensity, you can feel the title pressure already. 👀 Hien looked solid again, but i need Veerman to be braver in his passing lane.
If PSV really wants to control games, then the midfield balance has to be better than last week. Ibrahim Sangare looked one step late on a few transitions, and that cost us momentum. Fix that and we are cooking again. 🔥
